1TB Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive $310 + Free Shipping

I saw this on SD and am very close to pulling the trigger. I would've preferred $300 or less, but $10 more but free shipping and no tax might be enough to convince me. :)
 
just an fyi (dont know if people know) the 2TB evo was just released for $800 if you need the biggest ssd.

If i didn't have my 500gb 840 evo i would definitely get this deal though.
 
Apparently 1TB SSDs were going for nearly $700 just two years ago. I wonder if we'll see a 2TB at $300 or $400 by 2017?

It's likely, possibly even sooner than that. The 3D NAND tech makes 10TB+ sizes possible, could see a big ramp up next year.
 
with ssd it is always best to wait no need to buy one if you have space left. for me i got one because i've nearly filled out my ssd and hard drive. 1tb should last me a while.
 
Yeah, the 500GB 850EVO for $150 deal was enough of a draw for me to bite, if it wasn't such a drop and happened gradually I would have probably stayed on the sidelines a while longer. It's already been some time and it's still cheaper per gb than either the 1TB or 2TB. Not for too much longer, I imagine!
 
Might have to bite too, been waiting for a good deal on a 1TB SSD to upgrade my wife's 2011 Macbook Pro....

Because of 3D NAND I expect 1TB SSD's to be under $100 within 15 months, and to see 3TB to 5TB 3D NAND drives at around $150-200 by the end of 2016. My 256 and 512TB SSD's will last me until then....

Who puts porn on an SSD?? It's games, big fat games that I can't seem to finish before I install and start playing new ones...

That and 8 different operating systems in VM's ;-)
 
I remember paying for my first SSD in 2010 64GB for 165, and that was a good deal at the time. Hopefully in 2 months when I start a new build they're even cheaper. I think soon enough I'll be full switching to SSD. I don't use my computer for anything but games anyways.
 
Might get one, would be nice to have 1TB of SSD storage. Can finally retire my aged 1TB WD Black.

I wound up biting on the deal. This will be my 3rd ever SSD (all within the last 3 years). Hopefully this will give my Steam account enough breathing space for a few years.

Shipping says arrival by next Mon. Damn, I was hoping for Fri. Yeah, I could've paid a few bucks more for faster shipping, but I was being a cheap bastard about it. :p

A little off topic, what's the best way to transfer Steam games so that they only show up once in my Steam Library? I noticed that copying from one disk drive to another sometimes leaves a duplicate pointer in my Steam library on the left column, which is no biggie, but visually a little annoying. Right now, I have some Steam games on one SSD, some on another, and the rest (pretty much games I never played) on the HDD. I want to consolidate all the games onto this 1 TB SSD. I'll transfer the games from my 2nd SSD (the one I'll replace/upgrade) to the HDD, and then once the new SSD is install, ultimately moved them all there.
 
Any issues with this 850 Evo besides Linux server incompatibility?

Maybe I'll bite on this tomorrow with my paycheck.

Can't wait to stick a 1Tb SSD into my LGA 775 Gigabyte EP45-UD3P Xeon rig :D:D:D:D:D

I was supposed to get it on Mon. but I got it on Fri., so that gave me the weekend to play with the new SSD. :cool:

It came via USPS, even though it had a FedEx tracking #. I replaced my Intel 180 GB SSD and gave it the same drive letter in Windows. My Steam games were across 2 SSDs and an external HDD. I copied the Steam games over to this new SSD and found a trick online to have Steam's pointers configured correctly so that they refer to the new location of the games. So far, so good. I didn't do any benchmarking yet.

2TB SSD would make a perfect external USB 3.0 drive+enclosure.
 
eSata seemed to have never taken off at all. I have one port available but rarely see esata externals sold. but i guess you can just buy a external ssd kit with esata.
