My father and I are going to get my brother a LCD screen for college in august. He is going to be issued a Dell Latitude D600. He said that he wanted a 2005FPW before he left, and we are about to buy it but I checked to D600's specs and it supports a maxium of 1600x1200, where as the 2005FPW is 1650x1050.

My question is what is the next highest widescreen resolution under 1600x1200 that still looks good, this is not for gaming but for school use. 2005FPW Owner's: does any lower resolution useable for a extended amount of time? Tanks guys.

BTW would a docking station allow for higer res?

1280x800 is what I know of on 15.4" laptop screens. Not sure what monitors might have that...

that has a mobility radeon 9000, which should have support for monitors up to 2048*1650 or whatever the max is, at least thats what the thinkpad my buddy has with a mobility 9000 supports.. maybe dell did something to them

it might work because afaik, the widesceen equivalent of UXGA (1600x1200) is 1920x1200
1680x1050 (WSXGA) equivalent is 1280x1024 (SXGA). not sure but it should work.
