Hey everyone,

I am trying to rescue data off of my fiancee's 2008 Mac Book Air.

It had a 2.5" hard drive with a weird connector on it. See pictures below.

Does anyone know of an adapter (Sata or USB) that can be used with this? I'd search for one myself, but I don't even know what to call this connector.

The ribbon cable doesn't seem to come off (at least not easily, and I don't want to ruin it trying)

Appreciate any help!

Thank you very much guys.

Knowing that the keyword is LIF is what I really needed.

Does anyone know if there are any tricks to removing and replacing the ribbon cable from the drive, or is it just a matter of pulling gently?

I don't want to wreck anything by pulling too hard.

LIF is low insertion force. The socket keeps the ribbon in place with some resistance. It's normal to require a little force to get it in and out. The ribbon should be the same for the ZIF socket, but it has a different mechanism (like a latch) to keep the ribbon in the socket since it doesn't require any force (ZF zero force) to insert or remove the ribbon.
