2x 7600GT's or 1x 7900GT

It is just $100NZD more for a 2 7600s than 1 7900GT. Is it worth it? Will it preform alot better?

I know about all that leaving the 2nd SLI slot free for future "upgrade path" so don't say that please.

EDIT: Would heat and noise be an issue? Are the fans on the 7600's quiet? If noone know, you don't have to go looking for reviews just say you don't know and I will look.
 
I would go for the single 7900GT. When the price eventually drops with the 7900GT, you can add another one of those. :) Just seems like the logical thing to do.

Single 7900 GT. You'll get it for less cash, get about the same performance, and get less power consumption.
 
I prefer the Single 7900 GT, performance per watt will be quite a bit better I think.

It will also work in all games and you don't have to mess with SLI.

Ok :) He needs more money for the DDR2 ram since he is changing from DDR to DDR2. 7900GT. I can't wait to test it out on Oblivion compared to my 6800GS and his old 6800 128mb AGP which he is selling for new comp. His old AGP card also has leadteks MASSIVE heatsink which covers both sides of the card :D

How well does the 7900GT do in oblivion? With... RAM 1gb, maybe 2gb. CPU - E6300 Conroe :)

unless you want a silent solution (2x of the gigabyte heatpipe 7600gt's) I say go with the 7900gt.
 
You could get a single 7600gt from evga and step it up to the 7900gt equivilant in series model from the 8 series. If the step up is a no go within 90 days, then you can just slap a second 7600gt into your system. I realize you can do the same with the 7900gt, but the 7600gt sli is faster than a single 7900gt.

if you have the money and the PSU to power it why not? you won't add $20 a month for electric bill for running SLI.

illogical thing! if price drops get the 7950X2, why settle? by that time 7950x2 would be $300 and ur 7900Gt would be $150.

With a single 7900 GT he will be able to consider having a P965 or 975X since he looks like he is going Conroe, else he will have to stick to a Nvidia chipset.

From what I have seen a 7600 GT SLI slots somewhere between a 7900 GT stock and a 7900 GTX stock.

Scaling for SLI is rarely 90%. I would say 70% on average is jsut about right. As well Single cards allows a consistent boost regardless of the game he plays, rather then have to worry about "SLI Scaling".

Care to show me general cases where SLI scales 90% without any need to use a synthetic benchmark?
 
neither wait for 8 series come out and get like a 7950 or somethin they will be alot cheaper prolly.
 
You can't just tell him to wait.

What video card are you running? Are you happy with your gameplay performance? In the graphics card industry, there is no such thing as future proof. If you go dx 10, then ati will be your best choice because they will have unified shaders, but that could very well make them arrive much later than the nvidia dx10 batch. When you wait those 3-6 months for a dx10 card, you will you waited another 3-6 months for the next cards.

No it's not worth the $50 usd. Just get a single 7900gt. 7600gt sli is only a good option if you plan on getting a second one later.
 
It'll be the 1 7900GT. Less noise is a big factor :) Anyone know of the noise making of a XFX 7900GT?
