just got todays ad in austin tx and it looks like frys electronics here (should be all frys) has 36gb raptor drives for $99 in store and a $30 mail in rebate

god i wish i had some money to jump on this

even a 2 per household limit.... perfect for Raid 0 :)

Though I'd rather 1 - 74Gb Raptor than 2 - 36's

I've got no money I can spare at all, but I still ordered 1 for a new system drive, the price is just too tempting.

*sigh*, now to plan for how I'll be reinstalling all this stuff once it gets here! ;)

well, I just got the 74Gb last week and it didnt come with any software in the box. You need to go to westerndigital.com and download the software for drive copying
http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp#dlgtools
http://support.wdc.com/download/dlg/dlg11_dos.exe

This will make a floppy for you, etc..

It hung on me while trying to analyze drives.....

after several tries searched support and found out I needed to disconnect CD drives. Did that then it took about 3 hours to copy... unplugged old drive & tried booting from new. Didnt work, no OS, or missing files... some shit.... so finally I just F___ it and did a fresh install of WinXP after wasting about 4+ hours with trying to drive copy.

just a warning, in advance. I wish they included Norton Ghost. I hear its much more reliable.

I've got access to Ghost through a friend who's a PC tech, but we'd need to get the proper SATA driver on it to find the drive I'd think.

Guess I'll make a call and do some research, cause copying the drive would be much much easier, but then again, the speed gains from a clean install are kinda nice too.

did anyone grab the mail in rebate pdf? They finally shipped my drive and I dont know if it is inside of the rebate window. If not I will call them up and ether get an RMA or demand the $30.
