very very warm at least because of the non-intel graphics. if i had my laptop sold by now i would jump on this.

warm, but not special in my mind. This laptop was special. It was $358 until yesterday at frys. (Toshiba was doing an instant rebate that drop it from 408 to 358 and frys had it on sale to 408). This is for a new laptop not a refurbished.

Note it has 3 gb of ram instead of 4 and a smaller hard drive, but a slighty faster processor. It also had a slightly better graphic chip.

The nvidia 8200 mobile edition isn't that good of a graphics. Don't confuse it with its desktop brethen, the desktop version which has 16 stream processors, the mobile version has 8 stream processors.

The toshiba laptop I referenced is the ati radeon 3100. It is identical the the ati radeon 3200 but instead of 500 mhz clock it is a mere 300. Notebookcheck puts the ati3100 as faster than the nvidia 8200m but that isn't saying much for both of these graphics are barely anything. (but still enough to play wow).

To top it all off. The laptop has a 6 cell battery. But if you bought a 2nd battery at the same time as the laptop, Frys/Toshiba has a 50 dollar instant rebate that dropped the 119 battery to $69. For a 9 cell second battery.

i prefer compaq much more over toshiba though... but for a budget buy, the brand really doesnt matter much i guess.

I prefer toshiba over compaq and about the same for an hp vs toshiba. Now I am losing faith in hp/compaq refurbs for there last batch of refurbs laptops had problems in like 4 of them out of a shipment of 30 (motherboard problems).

You are probably right. There's probably a reason so many of these are refurbed

I'd avoid hp/compaq like the plague, especially with a nvidia mobile gpu..
