4870x2 8.54 drivers = Wow Performance in COD4!!!!

I made sure to install all vista updates after the fresh installation. Every single critical update, and every single optional update minus the language packs was installed. Not sure if updates had anything to do with my performance improvement. May of been a combination of things. I did go back to bios 10 as well on my motherboard as well. Another screen shot.

hmm, guess I'll have to do that, hopefully it will help

If you use the 8.8 there's no need for a fresh install....Download-->Run-->Game :)

What settings were you using to get those results?

What's odd is my averages are close to yours, my maxes are sometimes quite a bit higher, and my minimums are almost 10FPS lower. WTF?

Also, ive been wondering, wat r ur system specs?

And heres a pic with vsync on. It caps at teh refresh rate 60 but it also drops quite often.

I am sure that this is a stupid question, but did you enable multiple GPU's in the options menu? It probably doesn't do anything with this card, but worth making sure.

I've tried with and without the option enabled. It seems to make things smoother when enabled, but FRAPS shows the exact same scores regardless of which setting is used.

When I ran the benchmark above, it was enabled.

artifact'd on 800/1000. lowered clocks to 800/950 and no artifacts. Ran from beginning till after you clear the night vision building and go back downstairs. I got an average 80, but again, this bench mark was a lot shorter than my others.

Yea, I think theres alot of headroom w/ the core, but the memory is close to max. I did get artifacts at 1000 until I upped the cards fan to 40% and put a slot fan in my case to blow air over the card.

Sorry to go off topic, but those screens are so damn sexy! Is that in the single player campaign with default settings? custom config? custom map?

How does it run at those settings, is it smooth gameplay?

Those shots are just so awesome looking, I thought Crysis looked good on my PC, but WOW! Playing at those settings on a HDTV would be so sexy.

Single Player, using custom .cfg file, and stock map. I got it from CryMod forums author is Jmanrob and file is called "Extreme Quality".Link ---->http://www.crymod.com/thread.php?threadid=31242can
. Its just gorgeous. I was in Crysis beta and even preordered the game then I stopped playing single player after a few days on my 8800gts with disappointment hoping for a better card to come. Playing it now for the first time. I get a OMG! gonna crap my pants type of excitement every second I play this on My Sharp 46" with the custom cfg.Maximum Boner!

Speedy I was playing around with Edge Detect at 4x and got 5 fps average lower with 8x Edge Detect with Adaptive AA in CCC. I honestly don't see a difference between 4x and 8x. Try upping your resolution (ya sounds counter intuitive)but Computers are quirky and strange. I ran it again on 1900x1200 and still getting similar average and max fps.

I think it's quite apparent that kadozer and I have dialed in on these 8.54 drivers. For whatever reason, they are working great on our systems. I might just install crysis now. :)

*high fives* you were great on EVGA forums :)

I got the beta's installed. the 8.54's. I'm gonna try to run COD4 again and see if theres any difference, I doubt there will be.

with the old drivers at the same settings it was arround 30-35 in that same area, so almost double the FPS.

Feels way more smoother too!

read some issues with 4870x2 in crossfire, ill have to see , downlaod is 95% lol

So is this beta for xp as well as vista? I saw on another forum, where they said it was for vista only...

seems some work on the drivers are needed. LOL. glad you guys found a solutions. I was pretty shocked when I saw frame rates around what my 8800GTX does.

Holy Shit! 100% increase
This "bigbang" of ATI driver put the "bigbang" of nvidia's zillion of drivers in a month in shame.

I'm still seeing crap performance out of mine. I was going to try the card in my other PC but Call of Duty 4 single player won't start. It gives me crap about not being able to detect the DVD-ROM.

Can't get AA to work in BF2142, and the anti-aliasing options are different in CCC

Make sure you don't have any virtual drives running.

vista only for the new drivers or does it work on xp too?

Dan-D... did you try the 2nd pcie slot -- one farthest away from the cpu? Guys are reporting a bit improvement over the closer to cpu slot... Also do you have your pcie settings in the bios correct? I know your the mobo god here but we all miss a thing from time to time :).. I would assume your bios is current and your pcie slots are set correct but would be cool if something stupid like that might help ya... I think we all want to love this gpu-- but just cant believe that we have to jump through this many hoops to get it to work..

Not to thread crap, but what happened to the "its a single card so it won't have the multiGPU problems I kept reading everywhere?

Yeah, let us know when you get it fixed, I want to know what kind of FPS your seeing.

Based on specs alone, I should be winning in a 3dmark06. You actually beat me w/ the 3.54 drivers in comparision to when I ran it w/ the 8.8's. I look forward to giving 3dmark06 a run on the new driver set and my new 64bit OS :)

is there any improvement in crysis?

Not really, to be honest I think I lost a few FPS.

Run #2- DX10 1900x1200 AA=4x, 64 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 29.31
Run #3- DX10 1900x1200 AA=8x, 64 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 30.14

Recap for you.
Problems were early drivers (ATI has always been like this even pre-AMD), not really Multi Gpu architecture related although people will generalize without looking more closely at problems and how they were solved in this thread. It was only yesterday that the best drivers were posted which were dug up from the forums at 3drage.

I believe the guy posted in another thread that it was fixed at least somewhat and it wasn't the card. Look at his post history somewhere I don't have the link but he posted some insane performance numbers at 2560 res.

I tried that. My BIOS settings are fine and the PCI-Express slots don't matter. I tried that and I got exactly the same performance. However I popped the card into another machine and it worked fine. I got very decent performance out of it.

I know I updated my Intel AHCI drivers (from the Intel website) prior to my 4870X2. Maybe give it a shot, if you want AHCI back.

Well that's a different machine. Not my main rig. I'm not really all that concerned about it. I'm not leaving the 4870 X2 in that machine and that's not a gaming box. The only reason that machine's normal video card is even an 8800GTX is because I have one just laying around and not doing anything.

Ah, okay. I thought you had tried your second machine, seen the 4870X2 working alright on it, then went back to your main and disabled AHCI.

That's not an option. My main rig uses a RAID 0 array for the hard drives. I boot from that array so I can't use that as an option. In my other rig all switching from AHCI to IDE did was allow the CD check for COD4 SP to work properly.

I can't seem to even get that level of performance with my 4870x2.
On Very High no AA I get around 18fps. I haven't been able to figure out why my Crysis fps is a good amount lower than others that I have seen. My 3dMarks scores are okay.

I'm on the 8.8's. Hopefully the 8.54's, will help it a little - I haven't gotten a chance to try them yet.
