Hi all, I am seriously contemplating getting a 4k monitor with g-sync.

i have 2 questions tho. figure I start with the monitor I am thinking of getting:

Acer XB280HK

SO, its a 4k, and I know at 4k you cannot do more than 60hz w/ DP, or 30 with HDMI. but if I drop the resolution down to say 2560x1440 would I be able to run 120hz?

2nd, i know when viewing text at a lower resolution you may have issues on 4k screen running 2k, but what about games. would there be any noticable difference between a true 2k monitor running the game, and the 4k monitor running the game at 2k resolution?

1) no, I have not seen a 4k monitor that will do 120hz @ 2560x1440 (although technically it is possible over DP)

2) there will be a slight difference, but not much

I can answer your second question. If you plan to game at 1440p, you're much better off with a 1440p display. 1440p on 4k doesn't look good at all compared to a native 1440p display due to interpolation. 1080p will look sharper than 1440p on a 4k display.

the asus rog does 144hz at 2560x1440. Unfortunatley that one is really hard to find available anywhere :( its the monitor a i really want. I think I am just going to wait for it to come in stock.

Thanks about the resolution, ya, i think ill stick with a native 1440 display then and wait for the ROG.
