I have a 4870 right now and paying $380 for a 5870 seems kind of expensive. Would I be better off coughing up $130 for another 4870 and crossfiring possibly?

Does crossfire work with dual monitors? (Dont need 3d acceleration on monitor 2)

do you really need either? what res are you playing at and what is the rest of your system. Are you trying to play any games that you can't play right now?

Yes, I would prolly just get another card. Someone might come in here and say OH DX11 OMGWTFBBQ. 4870x2/GTX295/5870 seem to all hang out in the same club so, 4870 512MB X-fire I feel is the smartest move in your situation unless you feel inclined to have the latest.

Another point is what resolution are you at? Having problems playing any games?

I thought 512 crossfire would be bottlenecking in memeory when resolution is 1920x1200 and up.

Getting a second 4870 would be cheaper for sure. I'm not sure about 512MB vs 1GB though. Depends on what displays you run.

forgot to answer your other question

yes two displays work with xfire. works with SLi too. you just have to plug them in to the first card

grab the second 4870 and xfire for sure.. unless of course you are gaming above, say, 1080p, then you might want to move to a single faster card with higher VRam even a jump to a 4890 would help with this,

also -- a 5850 might be right up your alley, they are competitively priced and quite the bang for the buck

The 1GB may be slightly faster, but I don't think based off of benchmarks it is a significant deal @1920x1200. Maybe 2-3 FPS or less.

I could see the memory being put to good use on a 30''.

I run at 1920x1200 on the main monitor and 1680x1050 on the second and every now and then in heavy scenes the frame rate drop a little more than I'd like. Right now I have an phenom 1 x3 (going to upgrade soon), 8GB of ram.
