Now slash $100 off and I'm all over it like stink on an AMD processor.

The HIS one with the free screwdriver wins by default! All other brands are INFERIOR!

Inferior I say!

Because someone who can drop 580 bucks on a vidcard definitely needs the free screwdriver. LOL!

its a reminder that they just got screwed.....

Hehe, good one.

<mental note>Don't market free screwdrivers with expensive product, check. Other things to include to the the list; Preperation H, Adult Diapers, Lube...</mental note>

Reminds me what some men shouted at Feminists during the beginning of the Women's movement... "All you need is a good screw!" :D

So when do you think we might start seeing non-reference HD4870x2's? I'd love to get one that has hdmi and/or display port.

I would love to see a [H] review myself. Preview is great, but I want to see a full blown review maybe with a new driver revision, and against a 9800 GX2 as well :)

I picked up one of the Visiontek's for 480 shipped from best buy. its on its way and will be delivered tomorrow. I almost cancelled it, but it shipped out, so Ill give it a try. This new card looks like the best thing since sliced bread, atleast for a single card :D

I can say, my Sapphire card is exceptional.
The CFAA is worth the price of admission.

Liked it so much I bought another......Quad, FTW.
Next a big-ass 30" monitor.

Not to aggreviate any of the advertisers, but mwave also has a good stock on hand.

I'm green w/ envy :p, hopefully I get my 2nd sapphire card soon

I bought a 4870 x2. This will be my last new video card for many, many years (I am training to be a doctor and will soon be entering the hospitals and working 100 hours a week). I am poor, but I want one last year of PC FPS gaming goodness before I retire. I can't wait to see what's available in 2018 when I am done with my training! Two years down, ten more to go!!!

Luckily STALKER: Clear Sky, Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead, and possibly Alan Wake are all coming out this year, so I should be going out with a bang. :)

PS: Yeah, I'm poor, so buying a $550 GPU may seem like a stretch, but it's really just a drop in the bucket when you're looking at $200,000 worth of medical school loans. What's the difference between $200,000 and $200,550? EDIT: 0.275%.

Plus, who doesn't like a free screwdriver?!?!?!

congrats! and I'm sure you will be able to buy some nice new toys once you are all done....in 2018 :(

Good luck w/ school and training...and hopefully malpractice insurance won't be up the wazzoo in 2018

Well...at 550....hmm.....2 280s for ~400 each look real appealing to me now. Have to see another test with mature hardware/drivers to get a full comparison. From what I have seen the ATI and Nvidia's arwe pretty similar, just different in different ways, but for $~150 cheaper per card...Nvidia is looking good.

I agree with your logic, but I got tired of dealing with quirks in the nvidia SLi chipsets. Believe me I really enjoyed my 8800 GTXs.

My X48 is like a breath of fresh air. Set it and forget it.:D

Actually, that's a .275% increase.

What do you call someone who finishes last in their class in med school?

Doctor.

Dumb questions, but can I utlize a single card x2 solution without having a crossfire capable motherboard? with an Nvidia chipset?

I know to go 4870x2 X 2 I would, but I currently have an old 680i motherboard that works just fine and I would rather not replace unless absolutely necessary.

Sorry for my ATI ignorance.

Yes, 4870 x2 runs in crossfire mode without a crossfire mobo because the GPUs have a built in comm system.

Thanks :) Hopefully we won't have a socialist health care system with the subsequent paycuts - I will literally be 38 when I am done training and ready to operate, and I will literally have patients' lives (and guts!) in my hands, so I want a large salary as compensation. Of course, I think it's only right to charge poor people less, or nothing if they TRULY cannot afford it - but I don't want the government making that decision for me. It's my time, my life, my 38 year investment, after all!

Wait until you are up all night operating on some scumbag with a gunshot wound, who will never pay you a cent; then sues you because he doesn't like the scar you made saving his life.
There is no compensation for that.

Yeah, that will suck. A lot. I do not yet know how I will deal with such betrayal, but I'll find a way. Maybe I'll take up boxing to get my aggression out. :)

Boxing is a great way to relieve stress AND it's tons of fun.

But I believe magoo was pointing out that scumbags who have gunshot wounds generally can't pay for medical costs UNLESS there is a so-called "socialist healthcare system" that can cover his costs. Therefore, without a "socialist healthcare system", you, as a doctor who just spent working hours helping a patient who can't pay you, just got royally screwed.

All due to a LACK of "socialist healthcare system".

Seeing this is WAY off topic we will close it now.
