I was going to go buy the bfg 6800 oc with farcry and doom3 at best buy deal tonight but should I wait for the 6600 gt? Will it outperform the 6800 nu and how much will it cost?

its my understanding the 6600 will be a slower card

however it does have SLI support

so perhaps instead of a 6800GT you can run dual 6600 in SLI

100 $ more, and its def. worth it. save up and get the GT

Not only do I not have the extra 100 for the gt anywhere in my budget for this system, it also comes with doom 3 and far cry for free, 2 games I was definately going to buy, saving me a further 100 dollars. I think its worth it.

This is the deal that pushed my over. My 4200 was starting to give me issues, so I was planning on ordering a 9800 pro. When I found out about this 6800nu for $300 with D3 I jumped on it. I love it... it's a great card. Plus, I will not feel too bad in a year or so when I need to replace it with a PCI-E card. There is a small possibility that you will be able to activate the missing 4 pipelines and 1 missing vertex unit when the new Rivatuner is released. This would give you a slower version of a GT. Although, if you think you will spend any amount of money on extra cooling for this beast, you might as well just get a GT.

Do you all realize he is talking about the 6600 GT? I've heard an MSRP of $199 or $225. The 128-bit bus limits it, but it is clocked a lot higher than a 6800NU. It is native PCI Express, which means you'll see PCI Express versions before those bridged back to AGP. It also supports SLI (dual cards). The PCI Express 6800 GT and Ultra will support SLI also. It should be a strong card, but I doubt it could keep up with an overclocked 6800 ala Gainward 2100 Golden Sample.

but that requires a mobo upgrade also, so no $$ savings there. and i wonder how much 2 6600's will tax a PS, will an upgrade be needed there?

2 6600 GTs probably would be a similar load on the PSU as a single 6800 Ultra, given that the regular 6800 draws 45% less power than a 6800U.

6800nu will be better than a 6600GT

Think about it...

128mb ram each
6800 has 256bit ram, 6600gt has 128bit ram
6800 has 12 pipes, 6600gt has 8 pipes

The only thing the 6600gt has going for it is higher clocks. Which is something pretty good I guess. But there's no way it will be better than a 6800nu, will it?

I smell a MX deally going on there... less pipes and 1/2 the bits in ram.... Or maybe that was the tnts with their M64 line =X

I suppose. Fuck I dunno what I should do... buy a 6800nu now or wait for the 6800GT to drop in price.
