7600gt vs 7900gs

Alrighty i am looking into replacing my 7800gt that i had to rma and getting a 7600gt ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150185 ) or a 7900gs ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150202 )... just wondering which would be better with an intel e6300, asus p5nsli, and 1gb of ddr667 pqi ram.... im looking for cheap but effective here...

7900 GS no doubt. It's almost the same as a 7900 GT, which is a bit faster than a 7800 GTX 256.

It's something like this:

7900 GT > 7800 GTX 256 >= 7900 GS > 7800 GT > 7600 GT

Thanks, cause yah i have to rma my 7800gt and they are out of stock so i am more than likely going to have to choose another card and make up the differance if i choose a higher end card.

the gs can typically be clocked a good deal higher than stock as well.

Kewl, cause yah i took a gamble and went with the evga 7800gt on newegg and lost XD it artifacted right off the bat sadly, so now it looks like im going with the 7900gs

That eVGA 7900 GS is a great deal. Be sure to overclock it once you get it. You can see very nice performance gains on that thing. eVGA also has the best RMA dept and customer service by far.

I think he's talking about xfx guys not evga.

but in either regard, go with the 7900gs for sure. a simple voltage bump and you'd be blowing away stock 7900gt's

oh word my bad. I read the first post and thought he was using those to show what his options were through xfx for his rma.

I got mine for $119 right after christmas. Rebate took about 3 months though (as in i just got it last week). Just for reference on EVGA turnaround time on rebates.
