80>120mm fan adapters?

I was wondering if anyone had experience with using these plastic funnel adapters that allow you to use a larger fan with a smaller slot. Are they effective? I'm interested in getting a 120mm fan (to push out way more air) for the back of my case, which only has 1 80mm slot.

Of course they work. The 120mm fan will push way more cfm than the little 80mm. The adapter even helps a little because it concentrates all the air into a more narrower space and the air moves faster.

Have people used them on more than just heatsinks?

I haven't seen them used for exhaust on cases or anything like that.
