I am building a new pc soon. I will be using it for alot of gaming, web browsing, and ms word. I can wait til conroe but i would like to know what parts i should have. Also i don't know much about intel mobos, so if anybody does could they help me. I'm thinking like

7600 gt-160
250 gb hd-90
nec cd drive-40
centurion case-50
2 gb ram-180
antec 550 watt psu-90

I need a cpu and gpu. Thanx

You already specified a gpu (7600gt). Personally, if one of the main uses for this rig is gaming, I'd opt for the 7900gt (or something similar on the ATI end).

I don't know much about Intel motherboards either, so I won't even try to give you advice  lucky you

I think he means CPU and motherboard maybe. Leaves about $290 for mobo and CPU. Sounds like you're not going to need dual-core really. For basic stuff like web browsing and word, it's not going to make a bit of difference, and for gaming single-core is actually better. I'd go with something like an A8N-E or A8N5X and an opteron 146. If you're interested in overclocking it'll definately be a very good CPU for the money. If ya want to wait for conroe, go right ahead. I hate waiting. :D

*The X1800XL *may* be able to be flashed to an X1800XT, ref here and here.

As far as power output is concerned, the PSU has quite a bit of headroom before you run into any limit. It should take a video card upgrade in stride, unless the card happens to draw around 16A or more (slightly less, if you OC the C2D, which you should).
