I really wish I had waited over the weekend to pick this instead of my x2 4200. Socket 939

Socket 939 X2 4400 $109

Only bad thing is that this will ship with 7-14 days directly from AMD rather than Tiger's warehouses.

Edit: holy shit.....prices just jumped up $10 within 10 minutes of posting this. Lukewarm at best now....

Geez...I got a 4600 X2 back in Feb for $200 cuz 939 was drying up. I'd kill for a 4800 but don't wanna pay another $130 :) Maybe my buddy will bite though.

oh boy am I tempted!!

I'm currently running a x2 3800 that I purchased the second day it was released. Paid almost 450 for it.

how much of a boost do you think I'd get?

How does an X2 4800 compare to an Opteron 165? That's what I have now in my rig.

Why do I ever even come to this forum?! I bit on the 4800. I'm currently running a 3700 on my 939 and I want to do one more upgrade before I build a whole new system. I guess I should be thankful that the processor is so incredibly inexpensive. ;) Thanks, OP

Thanks, I picked up a 4800- it'll be a nice bump over my X2 3800 and a cheap alternative to an FX-60 which is only 200MHz faster but costs $200 more if you can find one. It's also $100 cheaper than a 2.6GHz Opteron 185. I should be able to bridge that gap with a 10% overclock and sell my 3800 for around $50.

Uh oh, just hit the link again and now the product is not available. Looks like Tiger Direct must have gone through their old stock of 4800s. Hope I still get in on the deal even though I ordered when they were still in stock.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ / 2MB Cache / 2000MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Dual-Core / Processor with Fan (CP1-A64-4800 E) 1 $129.99 $129.99

Damn it.....the 4800s are gone. Looks like the 4400s are still in stock....

Congrats to those that jumped for the 4800s....i really wanted in on this deal but oh well :(

My 4800 is now on backorder so I don't know if that's part of the 7-14 day waiting period or something worse. :(

Well, the 4800's are gone, so I guess there will be no more temptation for me. :p

Good thing I ordered another one 4800+ x2 for my friend earlier today. He screamed for that.

Again, thanks OP!

how much of a boost would this be to my system currently running 3000+

You will notice a world of difference going from the 3000 to even the X2 4400. I was using a 4000 San Diego, which was a damn good proc, and going to the X2 4200 everything was much quicker to load, exiting out of games was instant. I had Nod32 and Adaware running that I minimized and forgot about when I hopped on a played COD2. Never slowed down or gave me any indication that I had something hogging my system down.

Overall, I'm very glad that I made the jump to X2 but I wished I had waited a few days more to get either one of those 2 above. I'd jump on the 4400 while it's still available. You won't be disappointed.

I bit on the 4800+. A damn good price. Couldn't resist the price - one last push for my 939 before a brand new rig.

...It's also $100 cheaper than a 2.6GHz Opteron 185. I should be able to bridge that gap with a 10% overclock...

So, is this a better deal than the more expensive Opteron?

I had full intention of buying an Opteron 185. Should I jump on this instead??

(oh, I don't game at all. Only office apps, CAD, engineering apps, Photoshop, Corel, etc.)

My 4800 just shipped today (ordered yesterday) so that 7-14 day waiting period didn't apply in my case. W00t!

My two retail 4800 x2 shipped out today - should arrive next Tues. :D

Get 4800 x2 OEM for $119 while they last! ;)

Wish they would have had the OEM when I first nabbed the 4800. I could have saved $10. Ah well... Now I can sell my old 3700 with a retail heat sink. ;)

Arghhhhh!!!!! I bit I hate this forum :D

Right now I have a 3800 X2 is there a big enough leap to justify my impulse buy?

i bit on the oem 4800, 127 shipped, well see if it goes through.

oughtta be a nice upgrade from my 3200

I bit, OEM 4800 x2 for $127 shipped.

I have been thinking about an opteron 185 for a while now and this saved me $100.

All Backordered - These items are currently on backorder, and will ship as soon as we receive stock on them. ( We are currently doing a physical inventory. Your order may temporarily show on backorder. Please allow 48 hours for your status to update. )

thats not what you want to read when you track your order...

I bit on the 4800 OEM. I've been dying to get an X2 for...forever. I'm still using a 3000+, but I couldn't justify the prices 939 X2's were going for used, so this is awesome!

Thanks OP.

Newegg is really competitive for AM2 but they haven t budged more than $5 on their 939 leftovers. Tracking my order and getting a message from TigerDirect that I have to wait 48 hours to verify if my order is going to ship... and on top of that they even charged me twice through no fault of my own, really wish I was dealing with the egg on this one.

edit: They confirmed the order will ship today and the second charge should drop off in a few days, not how I wanted to spend my morning. My first and last order with TigerDirect...

Man.. I was running a 3200+ until I ordered an OEM 4400+ X2 from newegg earlier this year for like $180. Would going to a 4800+ make any difference at all for me?

My brother is running a 3800+ X2 at the moment, too. Would it be advised that he just upgrade to a 4400+ or 4800+ and stick with his A8N-SLI for another year or two?

not hot at all you can pick up opteron 165's for 80 tops and will clock at fx-62 speeds..

with the right ram / mobo / cooling combination, sure.

This is performance right out of the box tho for roughly $100 less than what these chips went for within the last quarter.

thnx for the tip tho =P

i can overclock any 939 cpu with just a good mobo.. cooling and ram dont matter they are just a bonus... i have 3 opteron 165s all oc'd above 2.5ghz..
