I am gonna go with the 9600gt with plans of sli in the future. Now here is the problem.
I am gonna go evga or xfx.Prices go $149 to $209

evga specs 650 core 1800 memory($149) 740 core 1950 memory ($209)
xfx specs 680 core 1900 memory ($169) 740 core 2000 memory ($199) including cod4

There is a $50 difference between the entry and overclocked editions. Can you acheive the overclocked speeds from the standard cards,or maybe pass them?
Also can you acheive more from the overclocked cards?
Basically which is the best bang for the buck when going sli

My system specs are
5000+ 2.6ghz
gigabyte ga-m57Sli-s4
2gig cheap ddr 667
22inch WS dell or hanspree lcd
32bit vista home premium

Buy stock and overclock yourself. Pre-overclocked cards do not achieve higher max clocks in most cases (unless the OEM bumps the voltage and cooling)

I've got an MSI 9600GT that's factory overclocked to 700/1680/950(1900) that I'm running at 749/1797/986(1972). I paid $144 for it after rebate (well, $95 if you count "The Witcher" as $49 of the price since it was included).

lol dude its only been 2 hours impatient are we? lol
but anyway i have the MSI N9600GT that as you can see in my sig is clocked currently at 780/2000/2200
(core/shader/mem.)
it was a slightly OC'd card at 700mhz core but i don't think you should have a problem overclocking to 740/1950 or 2000 those should be easily attainable.

refer to this thread there was a bunch of what guys got on various non-OC'd and OC'd cards

thanks I was wondering if I should get a 9600 or a 8800gt.
It is kinda give or take with this problem.HEre is what I mean
9600gt $300 in cards,new sli mobo,new psu higher performance
8800gt $250 card,new sli mobo,new psu good performance

I put two 9600GTs in my backup system for 218 dollars for the two and I believe the two 9600GTs are worth it for SLI. The only part that would stop me from getting them now would be the possibility of ATI coming out with new cards this month that are suppose to show a lot of promise. Notice I said "suppose." Anyways for the extra money you get better performance than any single card in most games except for the 9800gx2 and the 9600GTs combined don't consume that much power or produce too much heat.

MSI 9600GT is 700 core from the factory. Newegg has them pretty cheap. Mine was 109.00 a couple of weeks ago. I'll get another one for SLI when the next price drop occurs.

the 9600gt is great I have the bfg 650 stock clock and I have it overclocked to 750 which is what most people I know that have this card run it at.

If you don't have a reason to pick a brand then you also don't have a reason not to pick a brand so I would go with what ever brand is cheapest.

I have has perfect satisfaction with MSI, evga, BFG, and xfx so for me it doesn't really matter the brand just the price.

I picked up teh Galaxy KFA2 overclocked for 108 after mir.
Stock clocks for it are 675/1625/2000. running 750/1712/2100. No problems. Very quiet card too. Never goes over 60C.

I replaced a 3850 and it was a slight upgrade. About even with a 3870 and even a bit faster in some games.

well for the price I feel it can't be beat.It is cheaper then the 3870 and the 8800gt.
I have found out tho that Best Buy has PNY 8800gt 512mb cards for sale for $179 local.
I am in a bind now.
With the 8800gt so cheap it seems worth it to buy it,I also have to get a PSU and I don't have the money for both right now.I don't know if I should just get the PSU first and wait to see if prices fall more or if something better comes out from ati in my price range.
