I have a 7950 GT in my system now. I am going to upgrade video cards. Which would be the better all around card? 9800 GTX+ or GTX 260? Assuming they are about the same price.

Thanks for the info in advance.

If they're the same cost, GTX260 hands down. How is that even a question? :)

Oh and obligatory questions:
- What's the resolution of your monitor?
- What PSU do you have?

I was looking at some charts and some games the 9800 GTX+ was running higher FPS . I guess that the core clock being substantially lower on the GTX 260 does not have any affect?

9800GTX+ is faster in some games at lower res and no AA/AF. But GTX260 is the better deal if they're the same price.

What processor do you have? It's from a 7950gt build!

Ahhhh E8500 build, nevermind then get the GTX 260 for sure.

I am running my 7950 from the old system that I just replaced until I get a new replacement card. :)

There's a tiny difference, but the price difference is tiny ( $10 after rebates ), get the 216 core version, check out hardocp's benchmarks for the difference.

Dear god get the eVGA 260 gtx 55nm card. It's $199 after rebate and it clocks like crazy and runs cool as hell. Seriously I have both cards and I'm going to step up all my 9800gtx+'s before my period runs out to the 260gtx 55nm.

better yet out of these 3. Is there a big difference in the 216 from the 192?

Very small:

the GTX 260 216 has an additional 8 TMUs as well as the additional 24 shaders. But identical memory throughput. You shouldn't expect anything more than 5-10% of extra performance out of the 216. On the logorithmic scale graphics card performance adheres to, seems to me to be right in-line.

Honestly the best buys are the GTX 260 192 for frequently around $200, the HD4870 512 for the same price, or the HD 4830 for $100.

Still goes to the GTX 260 if the price is the same.

It might be an overkill for your res, but knowning that a monitor upgrade will not have to start a gpu upgrade is nice.

I love my 9800gtx, love in a way you might find weird.

that is super overkill for that res,LOL!!!

You could get by with a 9800gt.The gtx 260 is good tho since this way if you get a bigger monitor then you can just use the same video card.

GTX 260 for sure. I had an EVGA 9800GTX+ and it sucked ass. I returned it.
