A little advice on a upgrade please

I am about to do a new build with the anticipation of Conroe and I have a video card dilemma.

Currently I have an AGP 6800GT, which obviously will not work with a new motherboard. I wanted to wait for either a G80 or R600 but that is not looking possible.

My question is, what card should I get now that:

A) Won’t cost to much so I can upgrade later to a DX10 card
B) Outperform the 6800GT to show a noticeable difference in games like BF2 and FEAR.

might be your best bet.
If I was in your shoes, and I was ok with teh proforemance oc the 6800GT.
I would just wait until i was ready to buy the DX 10 Compatable card.

Since you'll be needing a PCI-X card, get a 7900GT or X1800XT.

Shouldn't cost more than $230-$260 for one of those.

X1800XT runs AA + HDR the 7900GT doesnt : ) plus the X1800XT would win in Oblivion.

Also looks like I can get the X1800XT with 512Mb for the same as a 7900GT with 256MB.

If thats the case, go with the x1800xt 512mb.

But the performance would be too low anyway w/ AA + HDR. The X1800 is better.
