Hello, I usually don't make threads here. There's FAQs, stickies, and the likes to help you find a video card. I just want to know what your opinions are.

Here's the story, I recently sold my X1800XT 512MB because I wanted a X1950Pro, but had second thoughts, and needed money for Christmas to buy presents for people. However, on Jan 1st, I'll be getting my paycheck and combine that with some leftover money. I'm currently borrowing a friend's X800 128MB, but he'll want it back soon. So for now, DX10 stuff (hardware and games) won't be that good until 1 year later, so I need something to keep me sane. My power supply is plenty for the cards listed in the poll, it's a 460W Vantec that has 30A and one PCI-E plug. It never struggled when I had the X1800XT. My monitor is a Sceptre X20-NagaIII 20.1" LCD w/ DVI, and I play a lot of Source games and as well BF2. I gotta say, the X800 sure does pretty well at 1680x1050 with 2xAA in BF2 and CS:S, so something better than that might be just plenty enough for me. I mostly don't care about AA or AF, as long as I can get good FPS above 20 most of the time. EDIT: I play a lot of Oblivion too.

Allright, vote away, and if you picked Other, please explain why. Thanks!

Rig is in sig, just picked it up last week.

I recommend going used. I got the 7800GT CO for $140 shipped. I play DoD:S with all settings maxed @ 1280x1024. My days of buying *new* hardware are long gone... so much better equipment out there for less.

The X1900 for $135 new w/o rebate at the 'Egg or the Best Buy 7900GS for $129 AR, GCO posted in Hot Deals and overclock hard.

Yeah, it sure is. So, 1 says go used, 4 in favor of the X1900GT, and a 7900GS. $130 7900GS probably won't be there by January. Oh, I almost forgot to mention I play a lot of Oblivion.

Yeah, my recommendation is the best of the above cards, used. :D

^^^ my thoughts also. 7900GS can be had under $150AR if you shop around. Probably not going to find a better price/performance card unless you get yourself a 7800GT for pretty cheap. They are basically the same card (well, same performance anyway).

yah. i agree totally with Endurance

3dmark... 1950pro is a little better than 7900gs and is more balanced since it has 36 pixel shaders...

Not for me,
My x1950Pro scored 5505 and my 7900GS scored 5670, in any case most of the x1900GT's seem to score about 5000 or below and there are many 7900GS scores above 5000.

I've got 2 overclocked x1950 Pro's and one OC'd 7900GS, the GS is every bit as fast as a single x1950 Pro and for less $. Image quality is slightly better on the x1950 pro, but not enough to justify the price difference in my opinion.

Both my cards were oc'd for their 3dmark06 runs
x1950pro 620/1480
7900GS 550/1400

100 points in 3dmark dictating you that 7900gs is faster? 3dmark is not a game... You should try something like a game... 1950pro is superior to 7900gs in image quality and speed in most of the games... Many PC hardware sites will tell you other wise...

I agree the x1950pro is better than the 7900GS -see my sig-

However,
The x1900GT is not superior to the 7900GS. The 7900GS is as fast or faster, runs cooler, is a smaller pcie card, uses less power and has a higher top end. All for 30-40$ more, a bargain if you ask me.

For $135 without rebates the 1900gt is a bargain and can keep up with 7900gs... There's no point spending money and waiting for rebates when the deal is so sweet...

The one on sale is the newer core and has HDCP and doesn't heat up like the old cores...

Fair enough, if it is truly the new cooler core then it likely can oc better than the older ones too.

I got a 7900GT for $175 I think AR maybe a month ago. If you can find a deal like that, it might be the best card in that price range.

X1900GT is winning. Remember I'm trying to save as much money as possible.

Lol, can't believe I forgot to list the 7900GS in the poll. I'm more of an ATI person anyway.

I just got one of those 1900gt... Use paypal and free shipping "PAYPALFREE"... NO REBATES!!! HDCP... Folding...

Between 1900 GT/PRO, 7900 GS/GT... It's irrelevant... I think the cheapest price wins in this class as they all perform very similar to each other... Or at least you can overclock to match it's speed easily...

find a used 7800GTX or 7900GT ... maybe 7800GT even... great price:performance ratio - buy from a seller with good heat!

My 7900GS @ 681/840 with the single core in sig = 5004 3DMark06

Damn, even with your CPU i'd probably only get 4400 out of my 7800GTX - last year's $500 card. 7900GS is a steal for the overclocker.
