Accessing server to run 3DSM remotlely?

I have a mate who isn't all know how on PCs but he is one great 3D designer he does lots of work and he is in spain quite a bit of time. My question is would remotely accessing a personal server from the UK work? we are talking lots of rendering and big files, i have a feeling there would be some serious lag but im not to sure with remote access...

Running 3DS Max.

I've no doubts you could do this easily however i don't think it would be very comfortable for him working. I would expect a lot of lag, especially with a program that has lots of graphic movement on the display. The issue of there being big files would not be relevant as they would most likey be stored in the machine back in the uk your remoting into and wouldn't be being passed over the internet.
