Adobe, a world leader in overlooking critical security flaws in its own products, has issued another emergency update to Flash. Just one month after its last emergency update, this new flaw was being exploited in "drive-by" attacks that infect computers with ransomware.

Adobe Systems Inc issued an emergency update on Thursday to its widely used Flash software for Internet browsers after researchers discovered a security flaw that was being exploited to deliver ransomware to Windows PCs. The software maker urged the more than 1 billion users of Flash on Windows, Mac, Chrome and Linux computers to update the product as quickly as possible after security researchers said the bug was being exploited in "drive-by" attacks that infect computers with ransomware when tainted websites are visited.

This is why I removed flash from my computers. Does any site worth going to still require flash?

Here's what I don't get. Flash has been around for 20 years. And yet we're seeing massive security issues on what seems like a weekly basis. Seriously!?

Always try think about the positive side of things. Win10 users won't have to worry about their privacy any more. ;)

good god, how many flaws can there be in a video player? Isn't the damn thing more patches that not by now?

Time to kill Flash. There's no point in using it anymore.

Time to take Flash out to the pasture and bury it. Give a date and move to HTML5. 20 years old, and it's constantly patched. It needs to be put down. It's outlived it's purpose.

Hopefully, after 20 years HTML5 will have theirs pretty patched up instead of doing weekly (or twice weekly) patches for critical flaws. :)

I still prefer HTML5. Not just because of the security issues.

About the only advantage HTML5 has over Flash is that HTML5 is not an Adobe product. To make matters worse HTML5 is the perfect example of the statement, "I love standards, there are so many to pick from".

I'm not a web developer, so I don't dig too deep into it. Flash seems to use a lot more system resources. Plus, the less amount of plug-ins I have to run & update, the better.

Can't imagine why anyone would use Flash given the security issues it has. Java is just as bad. Microsoft, always late to the party, finally thought it was time to build into their browsers after Windows 7 so people have to specifically disable it which no normal user would know to do.

I won't use Java unless there is some real good reason for it. Cisco has some tools that use it, but I haven't needed those in a while.

We had a developer create us an application at work (the development team did it, not our team). They use Java 6, and an older version of it. It breaks with the newer versions. It's a pain in the ass. But, required for our sales people.

There are lot of small sites (and porn) that require flash but there are alternatives for those. Out of the big sites only Twitch.tv is still hellbent on using Flash for their livestreams. That site is the only reason I have Chrome installed and use its internal Flash player to watch some shows. For everything else I use Firefox, completely Flash and Java free.

Everything gets patched frequently. Chrome is updated every six weeks and look at all the security vulnerabilities that get closed up in each release.

I installed a game to Win2KPro and it wouldn't load so contacted the developer and they said they developed the game on Win2kPro so it should run fine. After a few back and forth he finally says I need Adobe Flash for the front end of the game, duh, I didn't install Flash to that PC because it was kept offline so saw no reason to install it. If flash ever loses support I will have to install it anyway just for that game.
