Adv. of 2x1gig over 2x512?

I hope this is not too vague of a question, but I've got a few different dual channel boards, 64 bit and 32, and I'm wondering under what circumstances/how much of a benefit I would see from having two gigs (pc3200 ddr) dual channel over just 2x512?
XP 32bit

Not much into heaving gaming anymore, the heaviest use would be video processing.

I don't know anything about video processing, but if it is memory intensive or you run other things at the same time, the extra memory could reduce paging. It's not difficult to consume 1GB of memory in XP.

Thanks for the reply mears, think I've got a better handle on it now, basically 1gig ain't going to cut it except for a basic machine. As they were discussing in this thread:
