I currently have a 9700Pro and am looking to upgrade. What NVIDIA card does the x800xl compare to. Or am I better off buying x800xt, x850pro,x850xt PE etc.....

Not really, theyre about the same, only thing the 6800GT has going for it is sm 3.0.
