All these new processors

Now, at one point in time I did a lot of research about uprgrading my G5 processor, whether or not it's tangible, whether or not it ever will be tangible I don't know. I read that things like bus speed are set directly on the processor, so could I, assuming it wouldn't have heating problems, stick a 2.5ghz in my 1st gen G5?
Anybody know if dual cores are the same socket?

I think they use a new memory controller, I would say its probably not worth it as you would need a new motherboard too, most likely.

Humm good question. I would think you will see some company doing g5 upgrades but they haven't come out yet. One thing to think of is that some g5s used a 450 watt and the newer ones use a 600 watt. As far as if the dual cores use the same socket I'm not sure as I have yet to take one apart(well even see one). Maybe if you updated the firmware and had the new heatsink/pump setup it may work but I have a feeling you are asking for trouble. Short answer is it will prob not work. I didn't see the dual core 2.5 listed in gsx yet but a single 2.3 chip(1 core) is 500 bucks for apple vendors to order. Besides apple lists the logic boards by bus speed so it looks like you would need to replace that too(as well as memory and video card since the new board will use pci express and ddr2.

Apple computer's no longer use sockets and are solderred to the motherboard.

Whaaaattt? I've held G5 processor modules. They do indeed have a socket interface.

oh, I read somewhere that was the reason they couldn't be upgraded. Thanks for the rolleyes though.

Part numbers are not supposed to be given to the general public, fyi. Are you a service provider?

Yea I prob should have taken the part numbers off. I did at least remove the price from all those boards.....
