Am I cpu bottlenecked?

Ok i realize that virtually every cpu out there will bottleneck a 6800 GT/Ultra but i dont think it should be this bad. i ran this demo with 4xaa 16xaf high quality settings in the nv control panel. ut2004 max settings in game.

http://www.3dcenter.de/downloads/ut2004-primeval.php

i got 30fps with 4xaa 16xaf with the 1280x960 demo
and 37fps with no aa no af image quality set to performance in the nv control panel.

i got 20fps with my 9800 pro (cant remember what settings but it was maxed out in game at 1280x960)

this is a fresh format of xp with sp2 and 65.73 drivers. i have the nforce 4.27 chipset drivers installed along with latest sound drivers. agp is running at 8x. aperture is set to 256MB, fastwrites are off.

try official drivers maybe? 61.77 i think

think u could run the demo for me? would like to see what other 6800 owners are getting :)

I just ran it there with my GT at 350/1000 with 4xAA/4xAF at that res. and got 35.6 then oc'd to 400/1100 and got 40.1. Will try with 16xAF now and edit back for you. My cpu runs 100mhz slower than yours with tighter ram timings, result to follow..

result = 26.8 yes is the answer!

What's wrong with 1280x1024 with 4xAA/8xAF or just 4x?

he was playing at 1280x960. the 6800's lose a large amount of performance with increasing AF levels (especially compared to the x800 series). the newer 65.xx+ drivers have started implementing new AF optimizations which help performance, you could always try installing them.

I just ran the demo, and at 4xAA, 16xAF 1280x960 I ranged between 28 and 52 fps with an average (at the end) of around 40fps. Top rig in my sig is what it was run on, same drivers and AGP settings as you.

Someone mail me a 6800GT to test, I'll send it right back I swear  .

I don't think you're bottlenecked. If you are, it's only very slightly. Maybe overclock a bit more?

this pc2700 ram is at its limit i think. im already giving it 2.9volts (max bios can give it).

as for fastwrites. will do. i just found some new nforce2 drivers (version 4.40) so gonna try those out.

with gt at stock (350 1000) i got 37.5fps. 4xaa 16xaf high quality. 1280x960.

7 fps jump with the new nforce2 drivers. nice.

i guess at the end of the day it comes down to the 6800 series being brand new hardware and nvidia has to still tweak it.

fastwrites on: 37.5
agp to 4x instead of 8x: 37.5 heh not surprised.

ok well now that others are getting the same fps as me im feeling better. and to be honest 37.5fps on a 6800 gt compared to 20fps on a 9800 pro thats almost twice the performance :D

sorry my wife is talking to me and watching everybody loves raymond real loud. but id be happy to run whatever test youd like. i have unreal 2 but not unreal 2004

i also have doom3

but your question about cpu limit depeds alot on game. and ut is one of those that leans more on cpu whereas something like 3dmark03 leans more on gpu.

P4 2.6c @ 3.2
1024Mb PC4200
6800Ultra at stock (425/1100), so not much faster than most o/c'd GTs:

UT2004 Primeval level:

4xAA / 8xAF:

1024x768: 51.7
1280*960: 46.9
1600*1200: 36.02

Did you run driver cleaner before installing the new card?
Are your chipset drivers installed?
In your control panel tab, is the 'system performance' tab set at 'Quality' or 'High quality' ?

What do you get in 3Dmark2003?

I reformatted.

chipset drivers are installed
set to quality, all optimizations are on.
3dmark2003 should be in sig.
