AMD axes the ATI brand name

I don't think it is that they think the public can't handle it, I think it is that they want to boost their brand. ATi cards have been really turning heads lately. AMD processors have not. I think they hope by unifying everything under the AMD name, their graphics division helps pimp their CPU division.

Remember that while their cards have been selling a lot, AMD overall has been losing money for a long time. They have, as of late, started turning a small profit over all, but it is still tenuous. Their CPU division is still a big part of what they do and they are struggling. So they want to push the name. They want people to think "Man these AMD graphics cards rock, maybe I should get an AMD CPU as well."
