DigiTimes, citing anonymous sources, claims that AMD is preparing to launch the Radeon 5000 series in the fourth quarter of this year.

AMD is preparing to launch ATI Radeon HD 5700 series (Juniper XT/LE) GPUs – the Radeon HD 5770 and 5750 – in October of 2009 and 5870 X2 (R800) in November after the launch of ATI Radeon HD 5850 and 5870 GPUs on September 22, according to sources at graphics card makers. In addition to graphics cards, AMD also plans ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series GPUs for notebooks – the Mobility Radeon HD 5800 for high-end, 5700 for performance, 5600 for mainstream and 5400 for entry-level, the sources noted.

AMD really has everything covered for the next generation of videocards. The notebook videocards will be very important too them as well.

Seems like this is their best timed and most well organized release in a looooong time.

What are ya' talking about... I have a 5950 in one of my computers!
Wait... that is nvidia...

I really really hope so. I have been a fan of AMD since the K6, but recently its been hard to root for them. There CPU's are just being beaten like a red headed stepchild! I am also a fan of ATI and they have always done well. I just traded in my X1950 for a 4870! Lets hope those benchmarks hold true.

Uhh...No. We're in the 3rd quarter of the year and the second quarter of the fiscal year.

Fiscal year is up to the company. It looks like AMD keeps their fiscal synchronous with the calendar.

My company's fiscal year starts in April and I believe Oracle's starts in June.

Are these really new releases or a rehashing of old cards to new numbers?

What do you AMD is, Nvidia? ;)

From the "leaked" benchmarks and publicized specs on the RV870, it's a new GPU and new series of cards. In essence, technological progress.

Most companies I know of have them end in the March-April range. Seems to be a good time for them to end.

Uh, hey artard, were nearing the end of the 4th quarter.
1st Quarter: October 1, 2008 – December 31, 2008
2nd Quarter: January 1, 2009 – March 31, 2009
3rd Quarter: April 1, 2009 – June 30, 2009
4th Quarter: July 1, 2009 – September 30, 2009

Just because wiki says it, doesn't make it true. Those are fiscal quarters, but when someone says Q4, who's to say they're talking fiscal, perhaps they mean winter?

My post was in refference to the other user post saying we are in the 2nd quarter of the fiscal year, which we aren't. Im going to assume amd is talking about the 4th quarter being october-december.

was at the AMD VIP showing of their new GPU during quakecon, this new series was put against the current gen and from what i saw in identical systems was like the difference between the 3870 and the 4870, i was really impressed.

Whatever ends up being the "5830/5770" of the new series is what I will get for sure!

This news just below the 82% market share of Intel in the CPU side. That only has to be a joke. I moved to ATI after losing my 360 to the RROD and going NVIDIA for 5 generations in a row and so far I like it.

I want to wait for the 5770 equivalent but my 3870 does not. Rose-red shades on reflections in GTA4 randomly, corrupt ground texture LOD calculations in Warhammer Online :(

You might want to read the first six paragraphs of the wiki you got that from, instead of jumping right to the example of the U.S. Government fiscal year.

So is it not true about the Sept. 22nd launch date?
RTFA. Better yet, just re-read exactly what Steve posted on the front page.
Re-read this line:

"AMD is preparing to launch ATI Radeon HD 5700 series (Juniper XT/LE) GPUs – the Radeon HD 5770 and 5750 – in October of 2009 and 5870 X2 (R800) in November after the launch of ATI Radeon HD 5850 and 5870 GPUs on September 22."

In case you missed that, I will put it in black and white for you:

HD 5850 = September 22
HD 5870 = September 22
HD 5750 = October
HD 5770 = October
HD 5870 X2 = October

Ah looks good to me. Glad I waited it out instead of upgrading to the 4800 series this summer. Just going to have to see if the performance is really worth the price of being with 5800 instead of snagging some 4800s on sale.

Just waiting for a surprise-release by nVidia now with cards which will crush the competition in every imaginable way. Now that'd be irony :) not that it'll happen, of course :p

its *puff* *puff* pass :D Man your high thinking Nvidia is going to pull something out of there ass this soon.
