Definitely the TP-550: Better quality, has the same amount of amperage on the +12V rail, has modular cables, etc.

With that said, the TP-550 and the EA650 do not have enough power for HD4890 CF. You need a PSU with at least 50A on the +12V rail like the TP-650 for HD4890 CF. For a single HD4890, the TP-550 is good enough.

The thermal paste comes with the HSF already applied. But in general, yes you do need thermal paste for the CPU.

I think someone made a thread recently about Earthwatts vs Truepower.

I think the Truepower is the better series but Earthwatts is still a very rock solid series. You really can't go wrong with either one.

~Edit~

Looks like Danny beat me by a few seconds. Didn't know the TP was modular. Well TP has my vote. Once you go modular you don't go back.

can you explain what modular vs non modular means? i tried googling it, but it still confused me.

Modular means removeable cables.

Example from Corsair 620HX:

well i would but its not within my budget

is there any difference between :

Antec TP - II 550w $55 on ebay

or the Antec TP 550w $90 -$ 7.99 promo

Your links are backwards. And there's a big difference. The Truepower II you saw on eBay is an old PSU and is much worse than the Truepower New 550W. In addition, it uses cheap capacitors that are prone to failure. I recommend against it.

Truepower is the elite/high quality line for Antec. So get that one if the prices are similar.
For Corsair the HX is their top line and the TX is their mainstream line of psu.

No, it isn't. The Truepower series is their midrange lineup. Signature is their high-end line, Earthwatts is their budget line, and Basiq is their low-end line.
