I'm looking into buying a laptop for school use that is still capable of doing some games and that...graphics don't need to be that great...but i would like these specs atleast in it:

Pentium M 1.7 GHz - 2.0 GHz (or something equivalent for you hardcore AMD fans)
512MB - 1024MB of RAM (preferably 1024MB)
40GB Hard drive (or larger)
Windows XP Professional (NO XP HOME EDITION!)

Graphics: Whatever is there

Any suggestions you guys can give would be great (I am in college so no super expensive ones, lol)

Thanks in advance,
...Dan

I recommend the Dell Inspiron 6000. I just bought mine after almost buying the Dell 700m.

You can find a 45% off coupon here that expires tonight.

The screen is big and bright (15.4'), the keyboard is large and spacious, and the Intel GMA900 integrated graphics works fine. I haven't installed any recently released PC games but I did install some emulators like Mame32, NeoRageX, and Visual Boy Advance. All these good oldies run fine.

If you do go for the 6000, be sure to get the 9-cell battery. It will last you for about 5 hours.

Other benefits of this coupon deal include:
1. DVD+/-R/RW burner
2. Standard 3-yr warranty
3. Dothan Pentium M with 2mb L2 and FSB533
4. GMA900 > Intel Extreme Graphics 2
5. 60GB 5200 RPM HDD with 8mb cache
6. 512mb of DDR2 PC2-3200 dual-channel memory setup

This Inspiron 6000 is my first laptop and I'm loving it a lot so far. The thing I did was reformat the HDD and install my own copy of WinXP Pro and other esesential programs.
