Anyone using a USB analog tuner?

Long story short, I picked up two Diamond Theater 650 USB tuners to add a couple of more tuners to my htpc. I get bad picture quality on about a handful of the 55+ channels I get, so I'm gonna have to return em.

I decided to get a Hauppauge WINTV-USB2-FM cause I got one for $20. Same problem that I had with the ATI based tuners.

Is there anyone using a usb based analog tuner with great results? I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the Microsoft mpeg-2 decoder that MCE uses as default, but if I change the decoder, I break commercial skip.

Those sound more like modern tuners more designed for Digital TV duty than Analog. USB usually means lack of a proper Mpeg2 decoder chip and proper 3D comb filters.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, even though the ATI 650 does have hardware mpeg2 I don't think it works properly with usb.

Move to HD and leave analog behind.

I'd love to, but in Canada there's no OTA HD in most areas and no cablecard.
