System will be an overclocked X2 4400 with 2GB RAM running SLI 7800GTX's. I want to stick with corsair so Ive come up with 3 2GB kits..

1) TWINX2048-3500LL PRO (2-3-2-6-1T)
2) TWINX2048-4000PT (3-4-4-8-1T)
3) TWINX2048-4400 PRO (3-4-4-8-1T)

Apart from the better cooling of the pro modules and assuming my max overclock I hit 2.75GHz giving 250MHz (500MHz DDR) which will be the best modules to use?

I should add that they are very similarly priced and the 4400 isnt yet available in the UK though I can wait until th end of november.

ewww....corsair. why would you even think of getting ANY of those sticks of ram? and i havent heard anything about corsair TwinX2048-4400 pros yet. Basically, if your gonna get 2 gigs, theres only one way to go, BALLISTIX. want proof?? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67762&page=1 who dominates the top 9, or 17, depending on how you look at it, spots?? BALLISTIX. why??

a little ic called -5b D.

I am thinking about the same setup. What is with this Patriot 3200 LL? I like the price and I see them a few times in the top 25 at the above link but I can't find too many reviews on them....although what I have found was favorable. Eclipse, anyone have personal experience with these?

the patriot LL's are alright ram, the overclockability has declined recently though. there, however, are many more sets that are more preferable. if you look at the latency used to hit that number 9 spot with was 3-3-3-8, which is hardly LL to me. you could easily get some G.skill pc4000 that will most likely do 270-280 3-4-4-8, and its much less of a crapshoot.

I wish I knew some other place to buy G.Skill 400 because that is my first choice but the egg is out of them and I need to buy memory tomorrow. I actually needed to have it in route today, but I am reasearching other options. At this rate I am about to just bite the bullet and go for Ballistix.

i just looked, and your right, gskills is out at newegg. when in doubt, ballistix out! :D hope you have fun with your ballistix.

Oh, not necessarily. There are new 64wordx2 ic's out there. CE-6, BE-6, BE-5, UCCC for instance.

i haven't seen much good out of the BE's.. CE-6 is good, but doesn't hit the mhz 5b D can, nor the tight latencies at lower mhz

i'd like to see some CE-5 though.. that might be fun to play with

those dont really come close to -5b D. look at XS. even cherry picked modules cant get to ddr600, like ballistix can. and the good infenion is CE-6, BE-6 and BE-5 clock less then CE-6, for some reason. and UCCC isnt as good as -5b D, it usually tops out around 270ish.

Micron chips are still a gamble though. You might get a stick that does over 300, or you could get a stick that barely does 240, you never know. At least the other ones are more consistent in their sucking :).

then they're rated for 250mhz anyway? ;)

Not all are :). You can find them on pc3200 sticks too... also, I beleive that 5ns = 200MHz ;) i

If they were rated for 233MHz for example, shouldn't they be codenamed -4B-D?

(Going by that logic, 266 = 3ns and 250 = 3.6 ns?)

But yeah, the higher-end stuff usually clocks to at least it's rated pc4000..

so which of the corsair sticks will be best for my setup, Iam leaning towards the 3500LL as the reviews have shown they can clock at 500MHz + with looser timmings.

we were discussing the ballistix, which is rated for 250mhz ;)

also, your math is quite fuzzy

5ns = 200mhz
4ns = 250mhz
3ns = 333mhz

the "250mhz" chips in the ballistix have -4Y imprinted on them before the 5b D, so i guess it's technically 4ns binned ram that was made for 200mhz operation ;)

We see the 3500LLs frequently hit 250 Mhz plus when the timings are loosened to 3-3-3 or 3-4-4.

The micron parts are great but yield is a serious challenge, out of 10 modules 1 or 2 might be awesome and the other 8 or 9 might be absolutely mediocre. When they're fast they're VERY fast though.

you say that, but the 3500LL costs the same as the ballistix and "frequently" oc's to the stock speed of the ballistix. i know which one wins in my mind ;)
