Just got my new system up and running, yay me!

asus m4a89gtd pro mobo, amd six core 3.3 cpu, 8gb ram. I have it watecooled, not really into overclocking though.

Question is the speed setting for the sata ports, you can set it at 6gb, 3gb, or "auto" Does auto work well enough to give you the full 6gb on the devices you have connected that both support it AND have a sata III cable hooked to them? Or do you need to manually set it to 6gb?

I only had the two 6gb cables that the mobo came with, so I used them on my 2 HDD's in a RAID that I installed windows, and the rest of the HDD's and devices are all connected with older sata cables, even though one of the other HDD's is a 6gb hardrive. This being the case I decided to leave it on auto until I could get the right cables for all devices.

Can I safely change it to 6gb now, and will it boost the performance of the two HDD's in a RAID I have hooked up with cables that support it?
