Asus Z68 Pro USB 3.0 cable

I currently am using the USB 3.0 bracket that came with my Z68 and have it plugged into the 20 pin on the motherboard and instead of putting it in one of the empty PCI slots on the back of the case. I just ran it to the side of my case where all the other wires are and plugged in the USB 3.0 cable that is on the front of my Corsair 600t case. I did remove the metal bracket part. Is it OK to do it this way?

I was going to just put the bracket on the back of my case but don't need extra 3.0 ports on the back right now and didnt want the cable showing in the case.
 
why would he do that?

he has a usb 3.0 port already built into the fron of his case.
 
It's fine.

If there is any exposed metal on the connector (there probablly is knowing USB connectors) make sure it is mounted where it can't short anything.
