The thread title says it all pretty much. I'm either going to get the XP-M 2500+ with a Thermalright SLK900A or XP 3200+. What would you guys do?

BTW this is a backup plan just in case my friend can't get the money together to buy my whole computer. I'll just upgrade bit by bit ^^.

I see you have the same name as me almost, can I ask why? (last name? nick name?) Also I see you have a nicely overclocked XP-M 2500+ yourself... could you share your temps, cooling, etc?

I'd say get the mobile as well, the 3200 is way overpriced anyways. You're nearly guaranteed to well excede the speed of it with the 2500.

2600 mobile(dont trust that your gonna get 2.6 on air)
i got a beauty of a cpu.. it runs at 2.5 ghtz at 1.675v and i only cant run at 2.6 because of my south bridge overheating... not a problem for long :D

i run a slk-800 with a 80mm enermax that has been slowed down to the point where its silent.. i get temps ~100 degs F full load

I got a 2600 mobile, and it is at about 2.4 ghz....I have temps under 100F and i know i could go higher. Somehow the bigger processors and their prices have less appeal to me now that I have pushed my processor to where they are with a few good fans and a little troubleshooting.

I would take the mobile also. I have heard nothing but good things about the 2600m

Old counter-strike nickname because I would never die. Stopped playing after 1.3 but the nickname just sorta stuck.

My mobile is doing 2525Mhz right now at 1.9v dispite what my sig says. ;) Temps range from 40*c idle to 47*c loaded. Its usually cooler but there is a lot of dust here at the University and I end up having to clean out my computer weekly. This is on a SP-97 with a 120mm fan attached. (Ghetto moded)

shouldnt you be able to do that at lower voltage
:(

Heh, my name comes from my last name, Roach. I also play Counter-Strike ^_^. Yeah it seems like getting the 2500m or 2600m is an obvious choice over the 3200 :). Thanks alot guys, I'll post overclocking results after I get it. (If my friend can't get my computer so I can't get a whole new one :p)

Mobile rocks. Plan on 2.2-2.4GHz on halfway-decent air cooling. If you have really good air cooling or water cooling, 2.5-2.6GHz may be within your grasp. You may really have to up the voltage in that range though, so keeping things cool is important. I have heard that a lot of people have no problem running between 1.85-2.0v with the mobile CPU, but I haven't been willing to go that far with mine. I've gotten to 2.5GHz at 1.75v, but it doesn't stay stable under heavy load. I'm currently running 2.3GHz at 1.7v and when it's cold, 2.4GHz at 1.7-1.725v does all right. I'm hoping my new case project (in progress, will give me year round 2.4-2.5GHz speeds.

P.S. My Athlon XP-M overclocked runs far cooler than my stock AMD Athlon XP 2500+, even though it's at higher voltage. I'm getting temps roughly 10-15C cooler.

I wish, the chip seems to max out around 2.56Ghz no matter what voltage and is just prime stable at 2525 with 1.9v. What really sucks is that a friend that bought the same chip the same time as me gets 2.7Ghz at 1.8v :( but at a much lower fsb, I like to keep mine atleast over 215.

Good luck with you overclocking ventures though Roachm. :)

shame on you for even asking. my 2500m does 2.4ghz with 1.600vcore. yeah thats right, 1.600. default is 1.575.

Zimbo, what kind of cooling are you using with your proc? You have a nice overclock there 2700 (225x12) @1.9v. I hope I can reach that :)

i could prob do that with my cpu... i just like not being able to hear my comp at all... and im running at 1.675v right now... think of how much overhead i would get feeding it 1.9... 2.7 ghtz is about right, too bad i got crappy ram that wont go past 200 mhtz fsb at any cas.. but it does 200 mhtz at 2.5 cas... (decent overclock for pc2700 tho)

so, should i feel good about 2.311 ghz on a 2800+ barton at 28C idle/32 C load?

I'm running my 2600+ M at 2.6ghz with a SLK900a and 80mm Antec fan. Very good OCer.

i have a 2400plus moble @2200mhz... runs fine. dont overpay :D it was 75dollars when i bought it bound to be a little cheaper now. why is everyone buying the 2500 ones? 2400 is the same thing? or am i mistaken...

2600 overclocks the best 2400 is prob binned 2500s and 2600s are binned ellite 2500's

Alright, I'm ordering an SLK900A, Delta 110cfm 55dba 92mm (or 80mm cant member), Arctic Silver 5, XP-M 2600+.

I was thinking 225x12 @ 1.9v (2700mhz). Should give me some frame rate boostage :).

Current Setup

AMD XP 1700+ @ 1.8 on stock cooling
256x2 dual channel ddr400
ATI made by ati 9800 pro 128mb
120 sata maxtor
sb live! 5.1
HOO HA!

I'd bet money you'll regret the purchase of that fan. 55dB is very loud; the Deltas can literally howl. I'd get a 92mm Panaflo M1A if you want a compromise, which is around 35dB and moves plenty of air.
