Russ said:wtf are you talking about. If your X800xt runs games at low res at max AA/AF etc well, then how is ANY card going to beat it soundly? Your logic is flawed because you don't consider a card to be much better just because at low res they are similar. On board graphics can run pong well, so can your X800xt. Do you then not consider the x800xt to "cripple" integrated graphics?
Who are you to say what "mainstream gaming resolution" is?
I'm rereading your post, and you don't seem so adamant against cards as I first thought you were. But I don't feel like deleting, so my post stays.
The thing about SLI 6800Us is that you could have gotten that 18 months ago, not 2 (7800GTX launch). Yea, a 7800GTX spanks the pants off a 9800pro, but when the 9800pro first came out, would you have wanted to wait for the 7800gtx? Hell no. There's always something better coming, but you have to upgrade sometime.
And I would hold onto an X800 or 6800 series card until the next cards come out since they are supposedly close. 512mb, 90nm, etc will probably spank the pants off a 7800GTX in UK2K7 ans such. That's what I'd buy if I had a X800 or 6800+.
Your absolutely Right no card is going to beat mine soundly as there are no games that tax mine yet at 1280x720 max detail, When future games start to struggle at my preferred resolution with max settings then i will look for/wait for a card that will cream my x800xt thats all i was saying.
I had a geforce 4 ti 4200 and when that started struggling in games i upgraded to a 9800xt, when it stuggled at games like doom 3, farcry etc at 1280x1024 max detail, i upgraded to an x800xt, now when this struggles at my current prefered gaming resolution then i will upgrade again. I wouldnt upgrade to an sli setup though for my gaming as you know, it is not needed/cost effective. I just thought, some people on these boards only have 19" LCDS with a max res of 1280 x 1024 which is why it baffles me when they bought 2 6800us a year ago when one would have ran all the games like butter at max detail even at present!! Which is why i say they are idiots, and if they say its for future proofing then why didnt they just wait and just buy 1 6800u a year ago then buy another one at the end of this year when taxing games come out and save themselves a hell of a lot of cash!!
I assumed the mainstream gaming resolution is 1280x1024 as 17" to 19" lcds are the most popular at the moment, bigger size lcds are out of most peoples price range for now. I apologise if im wrong!
