Hi

I'm just about to buy a Dell Dimension 9100 with a Pentium D 3,0.

I can choose between a 256MB ATI Radeon® X600 and 256MB nVidia GeForce 6800 (the others I can't afford...)

I need it for Adobe graphics apps and once in a while gaming. Which one should I pick? The X600 is the cheapest.

Thanks
- M

The geforce 6800 if your focus is gaming, but the x600 would be fine if your main intent is graphics like you stated.

I hate nvidia, but the 6800 is a MUCH better card than the x600 all around.

yeah those two aren't even vaguely comparable. x600 is 4 pipe 2 vertex, 6800 is 12 pipe 5 vertex. Not to mention the huge memory bandwidth advantage. The x600 performs nearly identically to a 9600 pro. The x600 would be fine for all of your adobe work and would perform well for gaming too, but if you really want to run high details and such you'll need the 6800.

I bought a 9100 only a few weeks ago.

Here is my advice - get the x600. Buy the 6800 elsewhere, because it will be cheaper. Dell charges an arm and a leg for an upgrade like that. Same goes with their RAM.

GeForce 6800 PCI-E wich makes 2500 @ 3dmark2005 ?!? cmoon i make 4500 with my 6600gt .... but the 6800 is the best choice ...

4500? the 6800Ultra...which has twice the pipes of your card and twice the memory bandwidth only get's about 5000...

and don't forget how slow the memory on the 6800's is...only 700 Mhz...

yep im calling the bullshit flag right there---my 6600gt gets like 3200

linky

A geforce 6800 is way better then the X600 in gaming, no way can a X600 perform any where close to a 6800

there isn't even a comparison man, thats like four pipes versus twelve, even if you don't game alot, it is still a great choice.

i asked my wife. she knows nothing about video cards but she said the 6800 sounds faster. who could argue with that logic?

The 6800 will own the X600. End of discussion.

This pretty much sums it up. There is nothing the X600 is better at vs. the 6800. Plus the 6800 will give more bang for the buck performance in all things.
