Got my new Atom bassed EEEPC over the weekend. It's running the N280 chip, and Windows reports it running at 1.66ghz. The issue is though, if I load up CPUID, it reports the clock speed at around 1000mhz. How exactly does it come up with the 1.66Ghz number in windows?

run prime95!

this is probably because the cpu clocks itself lower when not under load.

Speedstep/C1E lower the CPU's multiplier when it is idle. CPU-Z reads the frequency in real time, so it will report a lower speed when Speedstep is active. Load the CPU up, and you'll see the frequency jump back up.

Thank you!

Looks like my clock speed is maxing out at 1695mhz. Guess that's better than the advertised 1.66ghz.

Does the C2D have the same Speedstep/C1E technology?

I've OC'd my C2D to 2.88ghz (from 1.8ghz). Looking in CPUZ, it says it's running a clock speed of 2880 or so mhz. I'm guessing speedstep is disabled?
