Could anyone tell me theirs or the average 7970 OCs on water and what block they are using? I can't seem to find much info.

I'm also looking for block recommendation that have decent VRM cooling as I hear that is the weak link on theses cards.

Thanks!

It looks like with the most recent R290x price leaks ($699-729) the card will be firmly out of my price range so I'm just looking to OC the snot out of a 7970 to try and keep up.

Some website has the average air/water/[ln2?] overclocks, cant remember what though.

Im pretty sure average water was around 1215MHz.

I have mine doing 1300MHz with a EK Supremacy VGA. As for VRM, I used the included VRM sinks but replaced the pads with Fujipoly Extreme [1.5mm IIRC, even though one set was originally 1mm.. it compressed fine] I also took the dual fan assembly and remounted it; works really well for VRMs and memory.

Card is a Sapphire Vapor-X 7950. (Forgot you said 7970 but shouldnt be too different)

EDIT: Found it! http://hwbot.org/hardware/videocard/radeon_hd_7970/

1288MHz/1816MHz (7950 was 1218MHz)

in CFX, my 7970's with the original EK FC7970 blocks can run 1220-1230mhz each, and 1850mhz on the memory

when I only had one 7970, I could run the card at 1275. CFX does something that limits overclocks, not sure what it is

I don't know why I was expecting better but still good to know. Thanks guys

1288 mhz is great average overclock on core. Why does it not meet your expectations?

Agreed..@ 1.2Ghz, you are already 20% faster then the 7970Ghz edition, and 1288 is nearly 30% faster..There have never been GPU's that O/C as high as these puppies do that I can remember, outside of the 780/TITAN, but they are "current gen" as well since they are also built on a 28nm process...Personally I was blown away I was able to reach 1.3Ghz on my 7950 which had a base clock of 880Mhz and Boost of 950mhz...I'll take kinda free performance any day!

My 7970 would do 1250 with a slight voltage increase on water. I now have dual 7950s on water and they do 1155 with no voltage increase. With voltage they would only go to 1200 so wasnt a real point in doing it. But the 7950s @ 1155 in cross fire are killer fast with 13.10 beta 2.

I was hoping for 1300~ for sure OCs with water since I saw some people hitting 1200 on air. It sounds to me like water will get me 1200 for sure and if I get a cherry card I could get 1300.

I think I'm just going to sit on my hands for a week and see what happens before I decide. I can always hope $700 is price gouging and real MSRP is $599.
