Patch is shit. They gave in to the idiots who wanted 1 infantryman to be able to be equal to 1 MBT/IFV and nerfed them again.
- HMGs are useless. Less power than a pistol, short range.
- Vehicles get stuck on everything.
- Random vehicle jumping, typically when hitting infantry. I think this is intentional.
- Active protection doesn't work against RPGs. Another win for the n00bs.
- Active protection lasts about 1 second.
- Time to switch weapons in AFV takes obscenely long. The pause is often 3-4 seconds and it overlaps. You may get stuck in a period in which you can't shoot for 7-10 seconds because you switched back and fourth too quick.
- Vehicles slide. Its like Mario Kart banana peels, minus the banana peel. And you're sitting still.
- People slide. Good luck aiming when you're slipping all over the place.
- AFV cannons damage reduced against infantry. Now you'll need a good 5-7 direct hits. You're better off using a TOW or AP main gun round than your cannon or HMG. Some great balance work.
- Shitty remake map from one of the most over rated games in history, BF2. Map is cluttered and funneled. Vehicles get stuck on everything and you spend more time trying to get yourself free from the unnecessary sliding/jumping nerfs. This results in long travel distances with very little actual combat areas.
- More lag than ever. Thankfully we now have a lag flashing thing that blows the right side of your screen. Because cutting off our visibility is just what we need to deal with artificial lag enhancers.
At this point they should remove the map and roll back the game version. They should try again with a real map and not a shitty BF2 and add no new "bug fixes". And EA should strongly consider letting DICE/DICE LA go. They can contract out to far better studios. Without EA DICE will die within a few years which would be a wonderful thing.
trolling??
DICE LA has been widely considered a huge success with their turn around of BF4 since they took over. Most of your complaints seem to stem from lag issues as well.
He isn't trolling so much as exaggerating for effect due to frustration. However, some of it is valid complaints such as the HMG and other vehicle nerfs. Vehicles getting stuck is a problem with the map, and that happens with just about every map release (it happened a lot on Giants of Karelia) and it will get fixed eventually.
The sliding and jumping enemy vehicles is a direct result of packet loss. The computer and the server are arguing on your current position. FWIW, I've noticed it appear on several servers this past week, before the client side patch. I'm also willing to bet something else has changed either with recent issues with his ISP, the server he was on (servers also got a patch recently), or his own connection. I have my doubts it has anything to do with the client side patch since I've seen this behavior before. It could also be the map itself is buggy...but again the map and patch are 2 distinct things. I will see how it plays tonight as I only put in a small amount of time this morning. The only other thing I wonder about is the tick rate of the server he was playing on. The 60hz 64 man servers are performing terribly compared to the de facto 30-40hz 64 man servers right now due to either inefficient code or just sheer lack of CPU power on the server side. However 60hz servers work really well on 32 man and below.
Dragon Valley was the map that won by popular vote when they did the massive survey earlier this year. It wasn't my first choice, but the map looks fantastic compared to its previous version. The map has always had some odd, semi linear vehicle battles due to the riverbank and the roads alongside it. Honestly, we get it for free so I don't think I can complain too much.
As far as letting DICE/LA go, that part is laughable. They are the sole reason this game is actually playable. DICE Sweden fucked up the launch, then made things worse with the first couple patches and several of the DLC's (anyone remember Naval Strike the first few weeks?). DICE LA took over in June 2014 and has been responsible for the CTE project (which in of itself has cured many of BF4's issues), Dragon's Teeth DLC, Final Stand DLC, and the Zavod night map (free), Community Operations (Operation Outbreak, free), Legacy Operations (remade Dragon Valley, free), and every patch since. Personally, I considered BF4 finally playable since the Fall Patch of 2014 when they raised the tick rate to equal BF3's 30hz and that too was a result of DICE/LA. DICE Sweden is the team that needs to be looked at. They messed up the BF4 launch then half assed patching it as they transitioned to SW Battlefront which they also messed up (not with bugs but lack of features). Even if DICE/LA monumentally fucked up this patch, I believe they still deserve a second chance due to all the positive work they have put in so far.
The lag indicator has been there for over a year. It also doesn't take up much of the screen. I'm not sure what the complaint is about it. IIRC it changed colors from white to red-orange in the Spring 2015 patch.
