So, I haven't been paying much attention to this hobby in a while, my automotive has been keeping me busy and taking all the cash away. Which caused me to sell my 9800GTX which served me very well even with my monitor upgrade to 1920x1200. Right now this 8600gt is doing its job fine with TF2 but frames get chopy at times. So what would be its rightful replacement to get the performance similar to the 9800GTX? Right now like I said all I am playing is tf2 but it would be nice to have the luxury to play any decent games that come along.

Is the 5770 still that replacement for it or has something good and better for the $ come along? I don't have a budget but I don't really want to get an overkill card and like I said something similar to my 9800GTX which I had at 815/2050/1225.

Any suggestions? Thanks

If you want similar performance to your 9800GTX you can pick up a used 4850 for <$80. The 5770 is faster than your 9800GTX tho, bu not a huge huge upgrade imo.

However the 5770 offers direct x 11 support which doesn't suck this time around so its worthwhile to pick up.

For your resolution, to be able to play upcoming titles at high settings, I would definately recommend a 5850...

I currently have a 8600GT. I am wanting something similar or better than my old 9800GTX for a good price.

@Camberwell, thats the thing, the 9800GTX handled everything perfectly at 1920x1200, only game that made it choke was Metro but even then the game still looked good at normal settings if I recall.

So 5770 it is? I figure if its on par with the 9800gtx if not slightly better than thats my card.

If buying new, then the 5770. You appear to be happy with 9800GTX level performance that's why I can easily recommend the 5770. It's got great thermals, low power consumption, and DX11. There's nothing better at $150 when buying new. But if you can somehow score a 5830 for around $200 shipped I'd jump on that instead. The next step above these are the GTX465 for $290 (poor value at this price. Should be $50 cheaper), or the 5850 for $300 (excellent value). The 5850 is actually twice as fast as the 5770 and when overclocked, can even beat the 5870.

But if you are willing to buy used, you have much more options. NV's last generation GTX260, 275 or 285 are still very good cards. As well as AMD's 4870/4890. These cards are much faster than your 9800GTX.
