my friend has a issue with his BenQ FP783: it is not possible to choose a higher resolution than 1024*768 in every game. At the Windows XP desktop the native resolution af 1280*1024 CAN be chosen.
We already uninstalled and installed the videocard drivers, installed the drivers of the TFT and even unplugged the videocard hardware. None of this had any effect.

System: AMD 3400+ socket 939; 1Gb DDR, Sapphire V9999; WinXP

Any ideas??

Thnx

what video game?

there are a few games out (BF2 comes to mind) where 1280x1024 is not a valid 4:3 resolution and not supported..

some games will let you go with the 1184 intermediate 4:3 res or even the 1280x960 res, from what i've found though, most do not (although most games do support the 1280x1024)..

since the next resolution is the 1600x1200, the highest 4:3 res available is 1024x768.

the best thing is if you can list the games that he cannot get to run in 1280x1024 and also tell if there are games that do recognize that res for him.

Indeed, BF2 doesn't support that resolution ... but he cannot choose any resolution higher than 1024*. When I, with the same TFT can choose the 1280*960.
Then there are games like FEAR and Battle For Middle Earth. Both with the same prob, you cannot select any resolution higher than 1024*.

Quiet annoying if you have a system that should let you get better graphics.

I'm wondering if your monitor is being detected improperly by the os. When you set it to 1280x1024 in XP did it detect it automatically or did you have to force it to 1280?

Also if you go into the Device Manager is the monitor being reported correctly or does it have a different model number than the actual lcd? You could also try removing the monitor driver from Device manager and let windows redect the monitor as a plug and play device then maybe it will auto-detect the correct resolution.
