the 7900's Im intrested in are in the 250-300 range
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130016 <-269 (20mir)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130033 <-new"fixed desing with slower clocks(no mir)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130028 <- stock clocks w KO coller that covers memory 236.99 (after $25 mir)

I also found this for 325 (30mir)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102025

Any ideas?

preety much any 7900 gt will do
if you dont want to spend that much a 7600 gt will do..

I would get any evga 7 series card that is not the 7950gx2. My reasoning: if dx10 doesn't rear its ugly head by september, you won't be at a total loss when you step up to the next target market card which would undoubtably be cheaper by that time. Also, reports of nifty gifts like HL2 Episode 1 and Hitman packaged in step ups are not uncommon.

nice find.. on the 1900xt.
i would say that it is the most future proof of all the cards out there

I agree. The X1900XT is the way to go.

I went from a 7900GT KO to the X1900XT and it's a noticeable step up and can overclock to XTX speeds pretty easily.

Can't go wrong there.

I think Im liking the ati atm
the plus
$55bux will net a 33% increase in performance (bf2@1600x1200)
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/powercolor-x1900gt.html

the minuses
saphire costomer support sux, only 2 year waranty, its big and takes up two slots
and its going on an evga m-atx sli board and not a crossfire board :p

the only thing i havent factored in is that the superclocked 7900 prob performs better
than the one in the review i linked but the ati should overclock too.
ugh, almost ready to order

The x1800xt has more muscle, I recommend that. The only time the x1900gt will have an edge over the x1800xt is when a game makes it utilize all 36 of its shaders. However, you will get crappy performance because the x1900gt won't have the muscle to utilize the shaders. Likewise, the x1800xt will have crappy performance in that situation because it won't have the shaders to utilize its muscle.

get two 7900gt, you have the mobo for it might as well use it
for what a pair of 7900gt's cost I can get a 7950 that would have twice the memory
per gpu and have a built in hdcp decoder.

Vista will not be anytime soon so what the hell do you need a holdover card for?
Im moving from a nforce3 to a nforce4 platform and didn't want to spend 500+ on a
non dx10 card(yes I know dx10 may not be out this year)

Im running a x850xt agp now and that can barely manage gaming@1680x1050
if the $230(AR) 7900's where still in stock i would get one of those but as it is now
the evga superclock is the cheapest one now and would prob have ordered that if
the 1900xt wasnt $55 more.

with my luck when i decide to order it will go OS.

On what bizarre planet is $300 a "holdover" card price?

Just get a 7600GT for less than $150 to hold you over until the DX10 cards ship.

same planet that you can spend $500+ for a single card, multiply
that by 2 for sli or crossfire. I dont think a 7600gt can handle gaming @1680x1050
so thats why I started looking at 7900s

What makes 7600gt a better hold over card is that you can step up with an evga card come september. Buy midrange now, get free midrange card 2 months from now. What makes the 7600gt an even sweeter deal is the fact that it is only $140AR @ Monarch (shipping is factored in). Not to mention, monarch has an excellent track record and it is better than newegg IMO(hook me up mr monarch ;) ).

I could just do that with the 7900. prob not much tradeup value in 3 months but
i do like what have seen with evga's costomers service. I only deal with reputable e-tailors
newegg, chiefvalue, ZZF, ewiz, microcenter etc. I had an order thru *snip*
and had a problem with one of the parts in the order, had to resolve thru Visa.

about to just flip a coin at this point

edit: ati just went OS in the middle or ordering, saved a few $ and ordered the 7900.
