Best video card for a AMD 3500?

the amd3500 can handle any card unless you plan to play on a resolution under 1024x768...then it become a bottleneck...however an ideal card for the cpu would probably be the 7800gt/x1800xl...but if you have the money then a 7800gtx/x1800xt would run easily on the system without a bottle-neck (considering your going to be playing @1280x1024 and upwards)

I dont think you know what a "bottleneck" is. You're talking about overkill. The amd 3500 played at 1024x768 will be bottlenecked you're saying? No. Thats just a waste of power. A bottleneck would 1 or 2 components in the computer holding back the performance of the overall system.

Eh? He gave you the right answer.

The CPU speed becomes less of a factor compared to GPU speed at high resolutions w/ AA and AF enabled, thus even a GTX could be used with a 3500+. At 1024x768 the CPU will be the bottleneck, as would almost any CPU paired with a GTX at that res.

Oh ok, I see what he's saying now, I just misunderstood.

it happens :p

so basically unless your stuck on an lcd which has a native resolution of 1024x768 7800gt/x1800xl and upwards will be bottlenecked...so in theory (apart from the pre-mentioned) the AMD 3500 will not be a bottleneck for any card...

I agree with the 7800GT. I built my cousin a machine with the 3500+ and a 7800GT and the system ran great, I loved it while I had it.

I just put a rig together this last week with a 3500 and a XFX 6800GS and it handles anything I throw at it. I would go with the 7800GT since is not that much more than the 6800GS, plus you will have 20 pipelines opposed to 12 on the GS.
