Many people are annoyed at Nvidia's choice of name for the 9800GTX. So express your
views about it here.

Edit: Looks like something went wrong. I tried to make a poll but it seems it didn't work.

Some ideas:

Geforce 8900 or 8900GTS or 8900GTX
Geforce 8850
Geforce 8800 GTS OC Limited Edition
Geforce G92 Ultra
Geforce 8800 Ultra 512
Geforce 8950

8800GTX works fine for me I mean the are the same card right.....performance wise.

I think they should stay with the lame naming convention until they come out with a card that ups the 256 to 512 so a real difference can be made.

And when they final do that the name should be something flashy like TNT or Voodo and when they make new models of that they can just put a number in front of it like TNT2 and Voodo2.

Lol.. at this rate, my 7950GX2 will be the speed of nVidia's flagship card 2 years from now.

But seriously.. I think the 9800GTX should have just been called the 8900GT.. and he 9800GX2 should have been the 8950GX2.

8800GTX(G92) kinda like the 8800GTS's where they changed the memory sizes and gave better OC capabilities.what next a G92 Ultra? :p

From what I have been reading today, I feel 8850 GTX would have been the appropriate choice. 8900 isn't quite justified :p

8800GTX (G92) because that's the way nVidia has the GTS, so I believe it makes sense.

I think nVidia should have done so: 8650GT, 8850GT, 8850GTS and 8850GTX. That would have made more sense.

Here's how the whole G9x lineup should have been IMHO:

Now -> Should have been
9500 GT -> 8500 GT v2
9600 GT -> 8700 GT
8800 GT -> 8900 GT
8800 GTS 512MB -> 8900 GTS

9800 GT -> 8950 GT (slightly newer, better power consumption, hybrid SLI justifies 50-number step)
9800 GTS -> 8950 GTS
9800 GTX -> 8950 GTX
9800 GX2 -> 8950 GX2 (just like the 7950 GX2 beforehand...)

This whole "generation" is basically a die-shrink of G80, so should have been named as such.

Should have been 8850GTX :rolleyes:

Then again, with new silicon from ati competing with their market share its wiser they choose a title that suggests a "new" product rather than a refresh. Lots of fish in the sea. Explains why they chose the 8800GT as such. It would have been hard to fit in the 9600 series with a 8800GT named in the 9xxx class, since it outperforms it but would have to be a lower series.

Looks like nvidia all wants us to go SLI with these less expensive "high end" models, rather than buy a single performing card. Incentive to buy nvidia MCH mobos?
