Both are excellent "World Class" PSU's, but the new BFG EX-1200 breaks new ground & is simply, at this time in a class by itself!

Here is what I posted at EOCF:
New Super PSU! 80%+ Efficiency from 120W to 1200W!

By using Frequency Conversion technology, the EX power supply can actually emulate virtually any size power supply and therefore be at least 80% efficient, even with loads as low as 10% of the unit's maximum capability. EX power supplies have the lowest minimum load requirements and the best +5VSB efficiency on the market.

I have tested a lot of power supplies in my time and if I had to pick one to own, this would be it. Yes, it is that good.

So let's sum things up. We have a PSU which could have been called the incredible Hulk. We think it's very efficient, it runs really silent even when stressed. It has a nice dark style and color. The cables are modular, sleeved and lengthy (50 CM). Despite being a 1200 Watt power supply it has a regular ATX PSU size. During our tests we monitored several voltage rails really closely, which remained absolutely stable.

It is rare that truly new technology revolutionizes the PSU scene, but that is what is happening here! The switching frequency actually changes based on the load requirements providing very stable load regulation, very low ripple and noise & 80%+ Efficiency from 10% load (120W) to 100% load (1200W)!

This revolutionary PSU fits in a standard ATX case & has modular connectors. You could use it in a low powered system with integrated graphics or in a i7 4GHz+ with 2X 4870 2GB X2, 2X GTX295's or 3X GTX285's!

It was NEVER true before, but now it is, ONE SIZE FITS ALL!

Nice! This is essentially the PSU I've been dogging Jon to make for a while. I don't need even 1/2 of the capabilities, but it fits in a standard spot.....

BFG really does some amazing stuff with their PSU's. I've got the ES-800W and it's a thing of beauty. Glad to see they're breaking new ground in terms of efficiency, power and design.

I also posted this on EOCF as this PSU truly changes the 1KW+ landscape!

The pricing of the BFG EX-1200W with a MSRP of "only" $250 really throws a monkey wrench in to the pricing of all 1200W rated "known good" PSU's!

Here is the current market:

Even going "down" to the Enermax Revolution85 with a combined max of +12V@87, which is certainly puts it in the "1200W class" is still $41 more & that is after a $15 "savings" & a $20 MIR And the BFG is still at MSRP with no discounts!

The BFG ES-800 which first showed this amazing technology was just not competitive at $190, when the excellent Corsair 850W was only $110.

But this new BFG EX-1200W, even if it is a derated 1000W, at only $250, just kills everyone except probably the "die-hard members" of the PC P&C TC club.

A phase shift has a occurred, our paradigm has been altered & a new world awaits.......

What do we recommend now?

$250: BFG EX-1200W (modular)

$200: Corsair HX1000W (modular)

$115: Corsair TX850W

$95: PC P&C 750W

$75: Corsair HX520W (modular)

$50: BFG LS-450W

We just need 2 or 3 more modulars to fill in the gaps!

Just Something to think about.

thanks everybody, does anybody know where to get the BFG 1200w instead of newegg.com?

I am going to be building a new PC soon and had been looking enviously at the ES-800, however it was getting very hard to find for sale anywhere - and I heard that BFG were going to be releasing new power supplies at some point anyway. So I was interested to hear about the release of this new power supply. Is this EX-1200 the only one there will be in the new range, or are cheaper, lower-power models going to be released? I don't need 1200W, 800 was more up my street, so I am not really interested in this particular product considering its price.

Or is it the case that, because of the fancy tech and quality of construction of the PSU, $250 was the price they "had to" sell it at to make a profit... and so they decided to rate it at 1200W to make sure it looked good next to similarly-priced competition? If that's the case then I suppose we won't see a cheaper, ~800W model.

Newegg was the first ones to get the EX-1200 and they've already sold out.

I have more coming, but I won't get them until the end of April.

I want one of these 1200W beasts lol. Jon you should just keep them to sell to us [H]'ers ;)
perhaps under a group buy?

haha... well... next production run should be more than enough units. It's been really hard to get capacitors and transformers these days. The bad economy has caused component suppliers to lay off whole shifts, so now they're behind on orders. It can take two to three months just to get enough capacitors to build 500 units. :(

Ouch. Unless I find anything better. This new BFG ex-1200 is my new psu for my upcoming i7 build. Very beasty and should handle anything I can likely throw at it.

I also posted this on EOCF as this PSU truly changes the 1KW+ landscape!

I got brand-new Enermax Rev85+ 1050w for $250, so could others, so your price comparison is really doesn't mean anything. However, if you could find rev85+ 1250w, then the price delta would be huge lol

I checked the prices at newegg, Provantange & run a general Google search, then post the best of what I find. Prices can change by the minute, so the PSU Guide clearly states:
Prices are posted at time of update, always search for lowest price, shipping & tax before ordering!

well, this ain't no extremeoverclocking forum, alright? their rules don't apply here, so my point stands: rev85+ 1050w can be had for the same, if not lesser price. If you find rev85+ 1250w, that'd be a different ball game but your price comparison is invalid otherwise.

The BFG EX-1200 was priced at newegg@$250, the Enermax 1050W is still priced at newegg@291!

Using your logic all price comparisons would be useless, as "it is always cheaper somewhere else"!

He does have a point though. The Enermax is available elsewhere for cheaper, but the EX-1200 is currently only available through Newegg so it isn't cheaper anywhere else. I think all this quibbling about prices is a bit silly though.

Newegg was the first ones to get the EX-1200 and they've already sold out.

I'm pulling this thread up to ask if this date is still on target or has it changed?

I'm realllllllyyyy interested in this power supply and was looking a 1200w Silverstone when this came out. Was going to get it but thought I'd wait a little to what the reports of others would be. If I would have known I was going to have to wait so long, I would have pulled the trigger.

Thanks Jon

It's still on target if the container ship doesn't get hi-jacked by Somalian pirates.

Is there some way to backorder this PSU so I'm not checking Newegg every 10 minutes? :p

I signed up for Newegg to auto-notify but I heard that they're usually a little late sending out those emails, and I wouldn't be surprised if it sold out damn quick after it came back in stock.

These days I won't touch a PSU unless its been reviewed by Paul Johnson or JonnyGURU. If they like it, that's good enough for me.

Well, there's good news and bad news. The bad news is that the factory shipped way late (like by a week). The good news is to make up for that they're shipping in a lot more units so it's highly unlikely they'll run out in a couple days like they did last time.

Alright cool, thanks Jon. Even this slightly bad news is better than wondering if some Somalian pirate's juggling what would've been my sleek n' sexy new EX-1200. :D
