Can anyone suggest a build for playing WoW on max settings that has a good upgrade path for the future?

I'm running WoW at max settings on my POS right now.

It's got an AMD 64 3000 2.0 ghz, 1 gig of ram, and an x800pro. I run it at 1680x1050.

I usually get 30 fps except for certain rooms in naxx where there are all kinds of AEs going off... outside raids, the fps is fine 90% of the time.

If you get a setup equal or better than mine, you should be fine.

WoW isnt a very demanding game. The developers were able to both create a damn good visual experience while performing well on the lower end video cards which is why its so popular. I was running wow with my 9700pro mobility for a long time and I thought the graphics were amazing. I ran it on my 7900GT recently and saw little difference.

You'll be fine with a lower end card like a 7600GT. The only thing you should be aiming for is 100% view distance.

Which means a widescreen 20" (at least) LCD monitor, hehe.

Anyhow, whats your budget? and does it include the monitor?

Budget is $600 or so. I've already got the monitor - a Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP 20 incher. Damn nice monitor if you ask me, plus it only cost me $279 on sale :)

WoW is not much of a demanding game... I would recommend a Tandy 1000. Unless you're willing to give more details.

Well... can you define that "or so" hehe... cuz I came up with this:

$180 - Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz
$100 - Foxconn P9657AA-8KS2H Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express (review)
$100 - Wintec AMPO 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2-800 (1.8v) 3AMD2800-1G1K-R
$115 - BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE Geforce 7600GT 256MB ($145 - $30MIR)
$58 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3160811AS 160GB 7200RPM SATA300 8MB Cache
$32 - Rosewill R103A Black Steel ATX Mid Tower ($15 shipping)
$50 - XClio GOODPOWER 500W ATX 500W
$30 - NEC 18X DVD±R DVD Burner 7170A-0B
===========
$665 + tax and shipping (after rebates)

Did you need all those parts? or were you planning on using some parts you already have?

Sorry for not giving all the information - I don't really have any parts lying around, unless a 128MB stick of DDR2 really helps ;)

So you do need a case... Look for case deals on BF to save money. In fact, look for deals on every component, lol. But yah, If you can afford the build I suggested, it has everything for a complete system.

I already have a case, so I think that your build would work out fine.
