Hey, im looking to build a new AMD rig with the price cuts. Heres what im thinking so far, PC will be used for gaming/internet.

Probably be buying a HD off slickdeals.
My questions, whats a cheap soundcard that will work with this?
Is the 450 watt power supply that comes with the case good enough for this rig?
Is the video card weak in comparison to the rest of the system?

Thanks in advance everyone

Socket 939 can't be used with DDR2, unless that's some kind of special motherboard. AM2 is what you want.

I would say the video card is adequate, you should be able to run most games 1280x1024 with 4xAA and 8xAF.

I would buy a separate power supply, perferably 600W+ for future expansion. Those OCZ GameXStream ones are looking pretty good.

600w power supply? Are you serious?

Just get a quality power supply in the 400 watt range. If you want to future proof to some degree, move up to the 500 watt range. Seasonic makes high quality components. Antec's NeoHE line is also pretty good, but has been facing some compatibility issues.

Don't cheap out on the power supply, but don't get something completely unnecessary.

^ that would handle you fine for now, although maybe not if you went SLI.

Also, unless you are an audiophile, I the integrated sound should be more than sufficient.

I recommend changing your CPU, Motherboard and RAM to go AM2, you'll really regret buying 939 and DDR when they are the same price.

For power supplies, I'm no expert but these might serve you better:

Some are more expensive than you probably want to spend. If you want to go all-out balls to the wall, PC Power and Cooling is the Rolls-Royce of power supplies.

Ok, what about changing the cpu, mobo and ram to this:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor - Retail

Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail

Well, you lose the SLI option in favor of AM2. I think it is a good move.
