Alrighty - so this will be my first SLi system. I am not really building a NEW system but really hoping to improve upon my current.

Current proc - e6300 @2.8
Current Ram - xms2 667 @ 800 sync'd to proc
Evga 680i mobo

I want to run dual 8800GTS 320's - I already get GREAT performance from my main which runs 600/900 (yea i know i need to update my sig) but I really want to be ready for games like Crysis - I have upgraded to a dell 2405 so I do run 1920x1200.

I currently use an Antec NeoHE-550 psu which is NOT going to be enough for 2 8800's. I am thinking of buying 2 of these - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153037 - and running each card on one - since they have a peak of 300w i figure 1 for 2 cards is a worthless endeavor.

I was curious if anyone has used these and know their reliability/performance. I have looked for a few reviews but I come up empty handed.

Let me know guys!

out of stock it seems...

i feel like i've been living under a rock. didn't even know these things existed.

15A per rail?! Wow - you do realize that a single 8800GTS can pull more than that right? Now - can these PSU's give more power to a rail if it needs it (i.e. one rail needs 20 but the other only needs 10) can it auto switch for that?

Yes, they can... And do. I built a system with this as its backbone using...

Q6600-Quadcore Processor
EVGA 680i-AR
EVGA 8800GTX
2GB of DDR2800 Mem
2X 250Gb HDD
2X Sony DVD-RW drives
And then powering all the fans on the case and its still enough.

15A * 12V = 180 Watts......yeah....right

edit: a GTX doesn't use more than 125 watts(i think) and that would be about 10 amps

Its overclocked very nicely and thats idle i think... dont forget about peak usage.

I would use the 640mb gts cards at that resolution minimum.

Alrighty - so I troll'd around a little bit and found this chart - seems to be fairly accurate from the different real world info that I Get from people.

Before I post it - nVidia says that the 8800GTX can pull a peak of ~225W of power - thats a LOT of heat.

Mark84 from atomicmpc forums writes:

First up I'd like to thank michael999 for starting the original thread, here http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp?s=2&c=7&t=6309.

Alright, below is largely what michael999 had in his thread but with updated Wattages and cards, plus any other info I can find along the way.

Please, if you find any info related to this thread or more accurate wattage readings for cards please post the link in here so that I can update the list.

Right, on with the show!

The Truth About Graphics Power Requirements V2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok. There has been much confusion lately as to how much power you need to run the new uber card, the answer is not as simple as first thought. It turns out many older cards are using more power than the new ones. And the myth that NVIDIA suck more juice is a just that, a myth.

It seems that the main factors behind power consumption are:
- Core/Mem clock speeds - Higher clocks equal higher power consumption. (eg look at the difference between the 7900 GTX & GT, both the same GPU and memory but the core and memory are clocked differently, producing a 36W difference. Similar story with the X1900XT/XTX)
- Die size/fabrication process (110nm/90nm etc) - Smaller process equals a smaller die, thus less power needed. For example look at the 7900 GTX, it's a 196 mm² die size while the X1900XTX is 352 mm², both are 90nm, and clocked almost exactly the same but the 7900 GTX draws 36W less.
- Amount and type of onboard RAM - Greater amounts of onboard RAM capacity mean greater power consumption. Also newer GDDR draws less power GDDR > GDDR2 > GDDR3 > GDDR4. (eg look at the difference between the X1900XT & X1900XT 256MB model, same in every way except capacity and GDDR3 vs GDDR4 respectively, which results in a 10W drop)

GFX Card Comparison Table
--------------------------------------------------

This table shows GFX cards power consumption, not what the recommended PSU requirements are, but rather the actual draw of the card. These are the full load power consumption figures for the GFX card only.

All readings taken from here http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp unless other wise noted with a * or some other symbol etc. Readings with a % (percent) symbol are the official "peak power consumption" from the manufacturer. For everything else, see the legend below.

So. Judging from this - I SHOULD be able to use 1 of the pure power psu's or even my own HE 550 without issue. But - I think I may move to the 700W PC P&C Single rail psu.

Any arguments (with sources to back up your argument) are welcome, because honestly - thats how the best info is found.

the ocz is definately interesting
too bad i dont have ocz ram lol - i am building a themed machine - all evga - for slizone
