Ditch that Lian Li case. It still uses 80mm fans, which do not cool as well nor as quiet as larger 120mm fans. I recommend these other Lian-Li cases:
Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B ATX Case - $90
Lian Li PC-7B Plus II Silver ATX Case - $100

You do not need an 850W PSU for your rig. That Corsair 550VX is more than enough for your rig. However, for jsut $10 more, you could get the 750W Corsair 750TX:
Corsair 750TX 750W PSU - $98

Also, what size monitor do you have

I currently have a 22 incher, 1680x1050.

Then the HD4870 is overkill for that monitor. The HD4850 is also a good choice for that monitor and if you need to cut $100 off in an instant.

I *do* have the extra $100 to spare, so I was leaning towards the HD4870. Seems like a good choice to me. Hell, this current setup is under $1000 total, which is under the budget.

All right then. Will you be overclocking?

Good idea. I might not overclock till a few months down the road, so I may just go with the standard heatsink and purchase a 3rd party one later.

Ok, but like I said, you'll have to take apart your rig again to install the 3rd party HSF later on. You could avoid all that work by getting a 3rd party HSF right away.

Any specific reason why you are P35 based motherboard instead of the P45 based boards?

You can get the Asus PQ5 PRO board or similar for the same money.

i would drop the p35 board and look into getting a gigabyte p43/45 for same price abouts.
I would drop down the PSU a bit ( as someone said)
I would drop the 4870 to 4850
From the money saved dropping down other things. I would get a e8600 ( better stepping and better OC etc)

I was also going to ask why you are going with a P35 board instead of a P45 board, but it looks like two people beat me to it haha. I'll also recommend the P5Q Pro.
