i am not much of an apple expert, but i ordered a new ipad so i can use the old one (first gen) in my studio as a controller.

i have some apps i want to keep on the old one, and some i want to put on the new one.

(not jailbroken or anything)
can i have split up apps i bought for the old one and keep some on the old and transfer certain ones to the new one? or do i have to re- buy them or are the apps owned by me for any iOS device?

sorry for the noobishness!

All of the apps should be tied to your Apple ID. Therefore any and all applications are able to be synced to both devices provided that they both contain your Apple ID.

If you want to use different applications (for whatever reason) on both iPad's you can simply choose what to install directly on the iPad itself, or if you choose to use iTunes instead, you can choose to manually sync, and select which applications you wish to be synced on both iPads.
